IV: Despies And Spelling. . . Do They Mix?

Unfortunately, they usually dont. Despies, as mentioned before, have very few brain cells. The ones that they do possess are used for survival purposes and to meet basic needs. You cant honestly expect them to be smart, too. The few Despies that can spell, write, and capitalize properly are usually the ones that are able to be converted into good, sensible RPers and writers.

Though chatspeak is mostly used by the Mary Sue character designed for role-playing, it can still be spotted in bad stories. However, stories that dont have chatspeaking, l33t using Mary Sues can still be horribly written. Just because a role-player/writer can type with passably good grammar and spelling, they arent automatically Non-Despies.

To help you identify Despies and Mary Sues, we shall give you an example of an illiterate Despie, the most common type. Though this has been said before, we must repeat the fact that SOMETIMES, DESPIES ARE AT LEAST PASSABLY LITERATE! These are usually the ones that are able to be reformed.

Here is your example:

maria is ur tipical spanish exchange student. long black hair and a tan to die for she is 17 and loving it. maria was s str8 a student and evrey1 luvz her.

Much to the shame of RPers everywhere, this was actually posted somewhere. Though this is an RPing example, stories can also be written like this. I (Chrissy) once encountered a story (with an abused, depressed character) on fictionpress in which every other word was mangled. Since I am a fictionpress user, I will not give out the name of the story. I dont want to get in trouble.

Now, some Despies can spell moderately well, but have horrible grammar. Rarer than the illiterate Despies, this breed isnt quite as bad, though they should still be avoided. They may be converted once in a blue moon. Here is an example:

Apon falling into the water from a rush, he resurfaced moments later, around in the center of the pool. His smile to a slight, he ran a hand threw his hair.

This RPer can spell tolerably, and does not use chatspeak. He did, luckily, spell the word resurfaced correctly. However, what does Apon falling into the water from a rush mean? What does his smile to a slight mean? And though his spelling is okay, he still mangles some words like threw instead of through.
