Review written by J Hodder
For those unaware of this game, it was originally made for the PS2. It was ported over to the PC in November of 2003 and proved to be an intensive and time consuming game. In the short time I have had it, I have already put over 20 hours of gameplay into it.
The story follows Sieg Farheit on his quest to bring his former friend, Victor Delacroix, to justice after Victor stole a valuable book known as the Apocria of Yzarc. Apparently, Delacroix holds Seig responsable for the death of Seila, Victor's supposed lover. Teamed with a young woman named Arcia, Sieg tracks Victor as he travels the world in search of the mysteries spoken of in the book
The gameplay is reminisent of Devil May Cry, using the same style of combat. To make things more interesting, Seig possesses only a sword but no guns for long range, but fear not, he also has his mighty legions. Legions are armies of monsters that fight along side you in battle, with a maximum of six at one time. These legions are upgraded in power and army size as you gain experience to unlock their potentials. The legions also grant you other abilities, such as new attacks and skills.
This game features some of the most intense battles ever. With a maximum if 36 enemies on the screen at one time, and a variety of different creatures to fight, fighting proves to be very challenging, even on Normal difficulty. The boss battles will frustrate you with the difficulty but when you finally win, you will efeel like you earned it.
The graphics are very sharp, giving you visually appealing scenary to view throughout the game. The CG Graphics are stunning with their looks and the voice acting in the game is well above other games. The script from which the voice actors work from could have used better dialogue and the lip syncing needed better work, but that is ignorable.
The sound was a real weakness for me. There would be times when the sound would just quit out entirely. Whether its my computer or the game itself, I don't know. The music was good, fitting it's role well and the sounds of battle included everything from the clash of swords on steel to the grunting of the main character's effort.
Chaos Legion also includes a bonus mode for those who complete it; the option to play through the game again as the gun carrying Arcia, who's even more entertaining to play with than Sieg himself. Her guns and special moves make the replay worth it.
There are few games I have anticipated like this one, and dispite the negative reviews of being a Devil May Cry clone, I think Chaos Legion is a worthwhile play for those who want to test their limits.
