HALO MODDING TUTORIAL
FOR NEWBS
BY JACKSON FROM HACKHALO
Check out
Jackson's site GameHack
______________________________________
Firstly, you will need to get the Halo Map Tool, which you can download
from the link at the bottom of this tutorial. You will also need the .NET
Framework to run this program, you can also, find the link for this at the
bottom of the tutorial. You can also download TSearch, as this can find
cheats, which you can input manually.

Now, we'll start off with skinning. You need to have imaging software like
Paint shop Pro or Photoshop. You will have to make sure you are using the
.dds plug-in for you to alter the images. You will have to place the
plug-in somewhere in the programs directory. To get your skin, you will
have to open up the Halo Map Tool and open up a map, and then you can save
the bitmap to your Hard Disk. You can then open it up with your imaging
software. Now, when you have finished your skin, make sure you save it as
a .dds file. What I recommend you do now, is make a backup of you
BITMAPS.map file, as when you inject your new skin, you wont be able to
replace it with the original. Now, once you have made a backup of your
BITMAPS.map file, you should open up the Halo Map Tool and go to where you
bitmap is. Now to replace the original with your own skin, you need to
click on "Inject Texture". You then open up your skin and it
will be injected.

To alter what your weapons fire, you will need to open the Halo Map Tool,
and select your desired map. Now go to "Projectile" and, for
example, if you want to make the Shotgun fire Rockets, you need to select
"weapons/rocket launcher/rockets", now you will see at the top
of the Halo Map Tool, there are some details given. What you need to do
now is copy the Meta; the Meta is "B454E0". So, now you have
copied the Meta, you need to go to "weapons\shotgun\pellet" and
replace the Rocket Launchers Meta with the Shotguns Meta and then you need
to select "Save". Your Shotgun will now fire Rockets, rather
than the pellets it would normally fire.

Now, you can change your weapons, for example, you can make the Pistol a
Sniper Rifle, but what I find useful about this, is that, it acts exactly
as it should do, but it is still recognised as a different weapon, so what
you can do it use the Sniper Rifle as one weapon, and the Pistol, which
you have now made a Sniper Rifle, as your second weapon. This part of the
tutorial is like changing projectiles in the tutorial above, as it is
revolved around changing the Meta. You need to select "Weapons"
in the Halo Map Tool, now you go to "weapons\sniper rifle\sniper
rifle" and copy the Meta, You then go to
"weapons\pistol\pistol" and paste the Meta from the Sniper
Rifle, to replace the Pistol's. You now need to select "Save".
Also, in the TagEditor, which is on the right side of the Halo Map Tool,
you can change things like the Rate of Fire and Scope.

Now, this is were you can manually freeze your ammunition. You need to
open TSearch, then press "Ctrl & O" to open the process (In
this case, Halo), which will be "halo.exe". Now, the weapon I
shall use for this tutorial is the Assault Rifle. Make sure you have 60
rounds left in the magazine, now Alt & Tab out of the game to TSearch,
and click the first Magnifying Glass, which is used for your initial
search. In the first field, you should leave it as "Exact
Value", the third field can be left as it is, and now because you
have 60 rounds in your magazine, you put the Value, in the second field as
"60", and press "OK". It will now search. One it has
come up with a list of addresses, you need to go back into the game, and
fire off a few rounds. Now say that you have "47" rounds, you
need to Alt & Tab out of the game, to TSearch. Now you click on the
Second Magnifying Glass (The one with the 3 small dots underneath) and,
this time, put the value as "47" and press "OK". Note:
You always use the Second Magnifying Glass to carry on searching.
Now keep on doing this until you have came up with about 6 addresses left
at the most. Now you need to press the button that looks like a green + in
a box. This will add you address(es) onto the right side of TSearch, now
what you can do now, is alter the value (Ammunition) to whatever you
desire. Also, you can freeze the address, by clicking on the box I the
"Description" field. This will give you a sort of infinite
ammunition.
