Wicca and WitchCraft
*** A special note and introduction: This is my take on what Wicca and WitchCraft are to me through my experiences. Most, if not all Traditions, will probably agree with these basic beliefs but not necessarily all of them. We are all individuals with individual needs and wants in life as well as in our spiritual and religious paths, so it is important that you follow whatever Tradition(s)/Path(s) that you feel most drawn to. Also, this page is designed for the beginner or curious so the information will be fairly general in nature. For more in-depth study visit my links page or my reccommended reading page. May you find peace and many blessings on your quest for enlightenment! Blessed Be ~Gwynwhyfar
Wicca is an Earth-based religion that reveres nature as sacred and holy. It embraces magick as its main means of connecting with the Deities and to produce desired effects. It is a polytheistic religion recognizing Deity as dual revering a Goddess and a God and/or pantheon of Gods and Goddesses depending on the Tradition. The male and female aspects of Deity represent balance within ourselves, in nature and throughout the universe. They are equally important, warm and loving, not distant, untouchable or residing in "heaven". Most Wiccans/Witches believe in reincarnation, that is when a person dies his or her soul does not die but continues to be reborn to learn and overcome various obstacles or life lessons until the soul has reached a state of perfection and when that time comes they may choose to stay in the "Summerlands" or reincarnate if they wish or possibly even a higher state of existance reserved for souls who have reached this state of perfection. Where souls go between incarnations is commonly known to most Wiccans as the Summerland where they may reunite with friends and loved ones from previous incarnations and choose their next incarnation. None of this is scientifically proven fact but is accepted as fact by many peoples around the world, Wiccans and non-Wiccans alike through contemplation, meditation, and self-analysis. Wicca like most other religions follows an ideal of morality or code of ethics. It is called The Wiccan Rede: "An it harm none, do what ye will", which means you may do whatever you want as long as it doesn't harm anyone, including yourself! Coinciding with the Rede, Wiccans believe in karma, "The Law of Three" which says that whatever you send out, good or bad, comes back to you at three times the strength. So be aware of the energies you put out whether it be part of a spell or not, it will sooner or later come back to you threefold!
What is Wicca?
What Wicca/Paganism is NOT!! * Wiccans do NOT worship Satan nor do we believe that "hell", Satan or any absolute evil entity even exists, this is probably the Christians concept of the lowest level on the Spiral of Rebirth. * We do NOT perform human or animal sacrifices, we revere ALL life as sacred and a precious gift from the Goddess(s) and God(s). * We do NOT cast "evil" spells or hexes on on people, this goes against our Rede and The Law of Three * The Pentagram or Pentacle is NOT a symbol of "evil" or "devil" worship but it IS an ancient symbol of protection. The five points of the star represent the elements: earth(north), air(east), fire(south), water(west) and spirit(or Akasha). The circle around the star represents the continuing cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
What is WitchCraft?
WitchCraft, The Craft of The Wise, Magick, is the actual method of practice used by the Wiccan religion as well as many other Pagan religions. Magick gives the ability to connect with Deity, perform rituals, cast spells, etc. And the more it is practiced the better the individual will be at getting what they want from it. We use magick as a means to tap into our personal power, Earth power(herbs, stones, etc.) and Divine power(God(s) and Goddess(es)). Essentially, magick is the projection of natural energies to produce needed effects. The keyword here is "needed", you must have somewhat of a need of whatever you're casting the spell for. So you must consider your needs beforehand. Example: Casting a spell to, let's say, win the lottery because you aren't able to pay all your bills for the month probably would not come to fruition but casting a spell for financial security will have a much better chance of getting what you want. I know from my own experiences.

I don't really consider myself to be Wiccan, but rather just Pagan which is an umbrella term used to describe the wide variety of Pagan religions that exist. I've been introduced to several different "denominations" of Paganism my first experience was with Wicca, then Druidry, Asatru, to name a few, and most recently to Voodoo/Voudoun which I have found to be very interesting.
