Instead, her dressmaker made her a light blue dress with a royal blue trimming that came all the way up to her neck. Apparently, her dressmaker did not believe that Scarlett should be showing herself off.
Scarlett, enraged at this fact, threw her dressmaker out of her house and sent Katie out to find her a new dressmaker. She came back two days later saying that there was no dressmaker in all of Ireland who could make the dress in time.
The Next Day, Scarlett had almost given up hope when she got a knock on her front door. Outside was a young girl named Clara. Clara looked about 15, with curly brown hair pulled into a rather messy bun, and clothes that looked like she had rolled in the mud and let it dry before coming to Scarlett's house. At first, Scarlett thought she was an orphan begging for food, which was rather evident on her face as she opened the door.
"Excuse me Miss, but my name is Clara and I am looking for work. My family is in desperate need of money, and so they sent me to go find some."
"I'm sorry there is no work for you here," Scarlett firmly replied.
"Please Miss. I can cook and clean and my mother taught me how to sew really good."
"Sew?"
"Yes, I can sew really good, and fast too. I can make you a beautiful dress in two days!"
"Alright, I'll hire you temporarily as my personal dressmaker. And if you are any good, then we can talk about permanent work."
A week later, Scarlett had the perfect dress. It was a bright green velvet that was trimmed with a thin gold lace. She also had the perfect green hat. She was going to look absolutely perfect for the ball, and now all she had to do was go.
