"This is it!" Scarlett thought to herself that night as she lay in her new bed inside of her new home. "This is my new life. Everything is going to be so much better, now! I'll raise my beautiful baby in this perfect cottage, and she will have all the joys of Ireland at her fingertips." Scarlett sighed, and fell fast asleep dreaming of playing with her child amongst the wildflowers that made up Scarlett's backyard.
With the help of Sean, Scarlett had no problem finding the perfect house. It was a little cottage just a short distance from Cathy and Sean's home, that was just the perfect size for Scarlett and her baby to live. Scarlett worked every day trying to finish the nursury before her baby was born, but with each passing day she found this task to be harder and harder, as her physical strength became weaker and weaker.
Cathy came over almost every day and the two women complained to each other about the pains of being pregnant, in between the bits of gossip that took up their everyday conversation. They dreamed of the days when their children would be born and raising them, and how they would be best friends. As it turned out, Cathy's child was due at about the same time as Scarlett's baby, which made both mothers happy knowing that they wouldn't have to go through childbirth alone, and they could have a sympathizing friend for moral support.
Maureen visited both ladies often, and gave them rides in her carriage to the other's home. She made a point at every visit to remid Scarlett that in her condition she should hire some help, to help her take care of her baby. "Scarlett, darling now that you don't have a husband, you must have someone to help to take care of the baby. Do let me find someone for you, for as much as I would love to help, I can't be here all the time."
"Alright Maureen, you do what you think is best, and I'll just follow along."
A week later, Maureen brought Katie Prescot to Scarlett's home. She was a middle aged woman who reminded scarlett a great deal of Mammy in her build, and that look in her eys that was both loving and strict. Maureen spent an hour telling Scarlett just how wonderful Katie was, before Scarlett or Katie was able to get in a word. After a series of questions, Scarlett found out that Katie Prescot was an experienced midwife, whose husband had died a few years back, leaving her to travel around helping pregnant mothers. She had met Maureen a few years back, when she had helped Maureen with the birthing of one of her children.
Scarlett immediatly hired her, and Katie moved into Scarlett's guest bedroom. Thanks to Katie, Scarlett's nursury was beautifully finished, and everything was just perfect for the arrival of the new baby. Scarlett also found it comforting to have someone else in the house at night, when she found herself quite lonely.
