| In 1991, the theatrical film Gundam F91 proved to be a major disappointment among fans. In 1993, Yoshiyuki Tomino premiered the first new Gundam TV series in 6 years with Mobile Suit V Gundam. With F91, he attempted to show a new generation of characters by moving forward 30 years. With this series, he moves forward another 30 years, which places this one in UC 0153. The Federation and Zeon conflict is long over, as is the Federation and Crossbone Vanguard conflict. Now, the Earth Federation continues to weaken as the spaceborn Zanscare Empire attempts to conquer Earth. Only the AEUG-like League Militaire stands in their way, and as you might guess their secret weapon is the Victory Gundam. Unlike the kiddie pleaser Gundam ZZ, V Gundam returns to the darker roots of Z Gundam and is considered by many to be the best UC series after Z Gundam. Currently, V Gundam has the distinction of being the final animated series set in the Universal Century. Although the recent G-Saviour is set in UC 0223, it's a live action movie. As with most of the other series, it isn't available yet in the U.S. |
