| Prelude to part seven..... Back to part 6 "Stay with us Duo!" "ALL CLEAR!! The incision is made!" He remembered a light. His vision was very blurred, and he couldn't recognize anyone. He hardly remembered what he was doing there in the first place. "W-Where's Heero?" "I'm right here Duo....holding your hand!" Holding his hand. He couldn't even feel it. The pain inside him had minimized, but in his current state he felt more dead than alive. But he couldn't die, he had promised Heero. "DOCTOR we're loosing him!!!" "He's fibrilating!!" Duo found that he could not vocalize his thought. It wasn't until he heard a usually monotonous voice plead, that he realized he must have been dying. "DUO!!! Damn it...you never gave up before!! You promised me that you'll always be there.....GOD DAMNED DUO!!! You promised!!" The owners voice was breaking with held back tears. Duo could barely recall the first stinging in his chest. "THREE, TWO, ONE...CLEAR!!!" This time the stinging was assisted with a sharp pain shooting through his entire body. Whether the pain came from his chest or his abdomen, he couldn't recall. He became aware of all his senses: The smell of blood; the firm grip on his hand; and a terrorizingly painful scream. It wasn't until yet another shock of pain shot through him, tearing him apart, that he realized that he was the one screaming. "HOLD HIM DOWN!!" Strong arms pinned him down unto the hospital bed. His legs were being held apart. He could feel a cold object moving inside him. His eyes shot closed when the object penetrated something soft, the pain almost enough to send him into unconsciousness again. He became vaguely aware that the object must be a scope that had been inserted to calculate readings from his child. "Mr. Maxwell, you have to leave!" "NO" Duo thought. He tightened his grip on Heero's hand. Struggling he managed to finally vocalize his thoughts. "Don't leave me!!! PLEASE!!! Don't go--!!" "DUO!!" There was silence.... Duo looked around him. The doctors, Heero, the pain....they were all gone. He could feel nothing. He could see nothing, or so it seemed. There was nothing but white all around him. There was no wind, no breeze, no smell, nothing. He was standing, but he couldn't feel or see the ground. "HEERO!!" He called out. A heavy, frightening echo was his only answer. "Where am I?" He tried to sit down, and became aware that he was completely naked. He lay down and curled into a fetal position. There was nothing there. The walls, the sky, the ground were all white. The only spectacle of color was his unusually pale body. "Heero...where are you? I'm scared...." Ons Leven (part seven) "Duo! Duo! Wake up!!" The usually impassive face was drowned with worry. Heero tried to awaken his beloved who apparently had been having a nightmare. He'd awakened to the soft, chant like, whispers of his name from the longhaired figure in the bed with him. Duo gasped loudly as he finally woke. Heero winced at the look of complete horror in his husband's eyes. Breathing heavy, the frightened man was unable to say anything. He just stared. "Duo...what's wrong?" The look of utter concern in those cobalt blue eyes brought him back to his senses. "Heero...I-I had a nightmare. Well, not really a nightmare" He paused to gather his thoughts. I mean it was Trinity! I mean, it was when I got Trinity." He looked at Heero violet eyes searching for some reason for having this nightmare. Heero moved so he could firmly embrace Duo. "Tell me" "Remember what I told you, Heero? I had that near death experience when Trinity was born. I dreamed about it tonight. But it wasn't like a memory, it was as I was experiencing it all over again for the first time." Duo took Heero's right hand in both of his and firmly pressed it against his cheek. " I was so scarred that day, and in the dream I was scared too. I'm scared Heero." He leaned into the other man's embrace. "What if this one....is it? I want another child but I'm afraid that I won't live to name him." Heero frowned at that. "Don't say that! I would never let that happen. Trinity was different, she was our first. We know better now." Duo smiled. Heero always knew how to comfort him. He slipped his hand through the dark hair and pulled the other man in for a strong kiss. He loved Heero. Heero was his best friend, his companion, his soul mate, his husband and much more. He gently laid his head against Heero's chest. The other man's strong pulse was soothing him back to sleep. "I love you, Duo." Those words were his final step as he slipped into the endless world of dreams, where nightmares didn't exist. ================================== next page>> |
