| Tournament History |
| The statewide CDOT golf tournament began as a small gathering of maintenance folks. The first few years of the tournament consisted of one maintenance section hosting another. The first outing made for a somewhat auspicious beginning. Folklore indicates that it rained all day so everyone just went to Bob Milleson's house to bend elbows. After a few years the tournament grew and became the "Colorado Day Golf Tournament" which was held on Colorado Day, the first Monday of August each year. Later, Colorado Day stopped being an official state holiday, so the tournament started taking on new names, but keeping with tradition, is still held on the first or second Sunday of August. The tournament now boasts participation from across the state of many CDOT employees, family members, contractors, engineering consultants, suppliers, and other friends of the department. Some say that the tournament now rivals the U.S. Open in stature.
