The famous photo (left) showing construction workers chatting and during their lunch while sitting on a beam high over New York was shot by an unknown photographer between 1932-36. Taken during construction of Rockefeller Center, the scene is near Manhattan's Sixth Avenue and the West 50's. There are several versions of this photo on the internet, but most are displayed backwards. This is the correct view as seen by the Essex House hotel sign over the sixth man's head. Made into posters in 1936, these photos, some staged, show various scenes of construction workers on steel beams. They are seen casually relaxed suspended hundreds of feet in the air with absolutely nothing at all below or above them but the air.
