Faking It!
Skin cancer, premature wrinkles and looking like an old leather sofa. Three excellent reasons to sack the sun and fake your tan instead. But you don't want to look like you've been in an industrial accident at the orange factory either, so pay attention:
When it comes to faking a tan, preparation is your best friend. Take time to thoroughly exfoliate your skin every day for a week leading up to fake day. Use a good body scrub or exfoliator in the bath or shower, paying extra special attention to those rough bits like your knees, heels and elbows.
Before reaching for the fake tan, rub a light moisturiser into your skin all over to help the colour glide on later. Make sure it's completely dry before you do anything else or you'll end up streaky.
If you're going for an all-over tan, get some help with the tricky areas like your back. Remember how hard it is to put sun tan lotion on yourself? Same thing!!
Smear Vaseline on your eyebrows and hairline to keep them free from the effects of the self-tan. It's either that or pick up a sexy ginger tint, and we know which we'd prefer.
Take care with your hands, feet and toes. Don't get self-tan on the webs between your fingers and avoid the undersides of your arms, no-one tans there!
Make sure you thoroughly wash your hands as soon as you've finished. Concentrate mainly on the palms and under your nails or people will think you've been digging in the flowerbeds.
Be patient and wait a good half hour for your tan to dry before lying down, showering or getting dressed. Do the ironing or watch some telly standing up to kill the time.
