At the dawn of the 22nd century humans have colonized the stars in giant orbiting space colonies. The colonies are where a large portion of the human race now resides. They dub the new era, the Neo Era, or NE for short and starting it at NE 0001. However, not all was peaceful, many of these spacenoids hated how the Earth Federation ruled over the colonies with an iron fist. Many wanted to be self-governed. These colonies passed laws, only to have them brutally suppressed by the Earth Federation military forces. During this heated time, the Earth Federation went on with it space colonization programs and soon Mars and Jupiter had colonies on and around them.
Around NE 0065 the scientists found a way to produce clean fusion energy. By combining Helium-3 and Heavy Hydrogen (hydrogen with an extra neutron), the scientists found that that the two combine to form a clean fusion unlike any other nuclear reactor currently known and in use. A byproduct of this was the Minovsky Particle, which was a result of the fusion. This particle was found to hamper radio and radar waves. Military and civilian groups abroad see the advantages of the new fusion technology and quickly implement it.
In late NE 0073, colonists are in the streets of every colony protesting over a recent development. Nearly a week ago, a colony orbiting side 2, held elections as they also declared themselves an independent government and wished peace with the Earth Federation. In turn, the Earth Federation declared the colonist traitors, and nuked the colony. Over several million, men, women and children are killed as a result. The Earth Federation ignores the protests and imposes many laws restricting the colonist to their own colonies till they swear allegiance to the Earth Federation. This serves only to anger the colonies further.
Jupiter and Mars are slowly forgotten as the Earth focuses all its attention on the colonies. During this time the two planets build up their own forces and soon declare themselves free from the Earth Federation. The leaders of the Earth Federation seem to have lost their minds as they rashly send out all the forces of the Federation at the two planets. The armies meet outside Mars and fight, at first Jupiter and Mars fight together but a as fate may have it, all three forces lay waste to each other.
In early NE 0080 the war ends in a failure for all the governments involved. Some colonies are now floating wastelands, barely maintained by their meager populations. The Earth is in a state of confusion, its rogue space forces committing atrocities at an alarming rate. Both Jupiter and Mars suffer similar problems as their governments are forced to pick up the meager pieces that remain. Meanwhile, the colonies have declared themselves independent of the Earth, though some seek to gain a peaceful agreement with the Earth. Other colonies gird themselves with weapons of war and wait for some event to trigger their use. On the moon, Luna colonists have declared themselves neutral; yet, even they must outfit themselves for battle to maintain that neutrality. In this chaos, a group of pilots, thrown by chance, fate, or by luck, are tossed into this universe, for better or for worse, they will shape the times |
