What makes it worse that sometimes a person can get into the large purchase of a new guitar, set of drums or piano and then later find out that they do not enjoy it. A lot of times, especially when you go to a music shop that employs teachers who supply lessons, you can rent guitars, violins, drums and any other musical instrument that you are taking lessons on.
When you are renting an instrument, it is important to remember that you are usually responsible for the maintenance of it during that time. Guitars need strings, violins need strings, drums need heads and woodwind instruments need reeds. Sometimes things that can happen that require repairs as well. Depending on your rental agreement, you may be responsible for this as well.
Luckily, finding the things that you need to maintain these instruments isn't too far away because you can find them in the very place that you rented it. You should also remember, or at least your music teacher should remember, to include the maintenance of your instrument as part of your lessons. It's funny how many people can sometimes forget this important part of learning.
Another way to try out musical instruments before shelling out the money to buy it first is to go into a music program or band in your school. This will usually give you the opportunity to try out many different instruments as well as different musical styles.
Playing in a band at school or outside of school will help you learn more about music and your instrument as well. Playing with people with more experience than you will have a huge impact on your playing abilities. I always say that you should try to play with people who are better than you and when you are first starting out, this should be an easy thing to do.
Whatever instrument or musical genre you choose to play, make sure you do it because you love it. Having music in your life is something that will greatly enhance it.
