||| In the 1970's, Guitarist John McLaughlin formed ~Shakti~
with great musicians from India:
Violinist L. Shankar
Tabla player Zakir Hussain
Ghatam (claypot ) and Mridangam player T.S. Vinayakram ("Vikku"),
and also Mridangam player R. Raghavan .
Their first presentations included one with some Chinmoy disciples
Here are scrapbook pages relating to those musicians, and their three Lps .Shakti With John McLaughlin~
Their first Lp was a "Live" recording, a masterful triumph of faith and musicianship, over marketing and A&R.
~SHAKTI's second Lp~Handful Of Beauty~
...It was just that an excellent expression in great depths.
~Natural Elements~
Their third Lp rounded out moods and styles.
Violinist L.Shankar went on to further collabaorations with western musicians.
