Nature & Hikes
The community eucalyptus forest in the early morning light.
Here we are already above 4.500 meters
Quenuales, native trees, are all around you while you're walking to a high-altitude lake.
Walking towards the glaciar at the end of the Quebrada Honda.
Still close to the village, wheat fields, campesinas in colorful clothes and always the massive mountains dominating the scenery.
You will always be accompanied by a local guide while you're exploring the surroundings and enjoying the environment.
Lejiacocha, one of the mayor destinations for a long hike.
Lejiacocha (02)
Lejíacocha (03)
Inge and Femke made it to Lejíacocha Lake!!!!
The first day, you will discover the surroundings of your lodge, learning about the agriculture, scholar system, medicinal plants, and much more.
At several places you can find prehistorical paintings on the walls of caves!
Another cave with different paintings.
During the first days you will also get to the center of Vicos, to the main square.
The scenery at the end of the Quebrada Honda
Looking into the Quebrada Honda while hiking towards Llaqshac Lake.
"During the first days, our visitors are still tired very quickly, because of the altitude. Therefore we only make small hikes, in which we show them
our houses, our farms and the schools. We also give them "mat de coca", this helps them as well."
An example of a one-day hike: to the lake called "Lejacocha"
Or: in one day to the "Llaqshac Lake"
Llaqshac Lake, a beautiful lake which can also be reached easily in one day. You can even walk on for one (heavy) hour to reach the glaciar!
"We always like to do Llaqshac hike at the last day. It is a strong hike, but most visitors manage to reach the lake in three hours. Some of them like to touch the snow, so then we continue to the glaciar! Sometimes we even slide down the snow. On our way back, we visit caves with paintings from our ancients. Back at the car, the Pachamanca is ready, and we all eat together, and enjoy the music from our musicians. Then we say goodbye and hope that they come back."
The Quebrada Honda
And another lake, at Minoyopampa, at the end of the Quebrada Honda.
"The Quebrada Honda is a very important valley for us. It is where we grow our native potatoes and other potatoe-like species, like olluco and oqa. In harvesting time, we stay for almost two weeks in a row in the valley, before we load all our donkeys to go back to the valley with our harvest."
The end of the Photo Tour, we hope you liked it!
