| Wedding Planning - Not for the Faint of Heart |
Youre Invited! One of the first things your guests will see in regard to your wedding is the invitation. This will not only give them information they need for your wedding (date, time & place) but the style of the invitation will indicated the style of the wedding. There are a number of styles you can use to label your wedding on the invitations. The 3 most common options are as follows . . . |

| Specific information on the attire or location can be sent out to your guests in the form of newsletters, more on this later.
Its not just the words you use or the style you chose, the physical invitation choices are endless and you can make them just as unique. Lets say you are having a beach wedding, you could send your invitations rolled up in small bottles (plastic would be better than glass if sent in the mail). You could also handwrite the invites on large seashells or sand dollars. These unique touches indicate that this will be a casual, fun affair. If you are having a black tie wedding then an engraved invitation on heavy bond paper with calligraphy would be a more traditional choice. Perhaps a rice paper or vellum printed invite wrapped in silk for a more daring take on a formal theme. If you are a fan of going paperless or are simply a tech loving couple, sites like Evite.com have online wedding theme invitations you can e-mail to your guests. For my wedding I set the tone using handmade paper invitations with vellum overlays. (Tree free - my wedding had an environmental twist.) This was a classy invite but not too formal to match with my Black Tie Optional style. I was able to personalize the paper by having purple petals added to the mix and using a fern leaf to keep the vellum overlay in place. This was an earthy look that complimented the outdoor ceremony and reception we had planned as well as including our wedding colors. *To check out where I got my invites, go to www.oftheearth.org Of The Earth have tree free invitations and many other green products. |
| Black Tie Formal wedding. All guests come dressed in formal wear. This can also include tuxedos with dinner jackets (white) or tails and gowns should be ankle to floor length. |
| Black Tie Optional Semi-formal wedding. Guests have the option, but do not have to wear formal attire. Rather, they can wear nice suits and dresses. The idea is to be dressier than everyday but less than formal wear. Cocktail dresses and basic suits or shirt & tie are the norm. |
| Casual Attire Casual Wedding. Guests come as they are. In some cases Casual can mean jeans (no holes or tears) or khakis and skirts or dresses. The parameters of this style are usually established by the location. If it is a beach wedding then light materials and the ability to kick off ones shoes and walk in the sand would be best. If it is held in a converted barn then boots or sturdy shoes for walking and dancing on hard floors is best. |
