Center Fielder Carlos Ivan Beltran was born on April 24, 1977 in Puerto Rico he graduated from Fernando Callejas High School in Puerto Rico in 1995. He was draft by the Royals in the second-round of the 1995 amateur draft. Join the big league in 1998 gave fans hope when he batted over .300 the last two weeks of the season and show amazing speed on the base paths and in the outfield. He show his great talents during his first full season as a Royal in '99 by batting .293, 194 hits, 22 homeruns, 108 RBI, and had 27 stolen bases. Went on to win the A.L. Rookie of the Year for 99. Suffer a injury in 2000 limiting his playing time to just 98 games. During the off season he worked hard at his home in the Puerto Rico and hopes to repeated his performance of his rookie season in 2001. Carlos married Jessica Lugo just three days before being named Rookie of the Year.
