| Magic... dearest kindred, ... is often portrayed as the enacting of a particular formula or spell. Thus in chemistry and alchemy and cooking there are particular ingredients put together in designated proportions after having been effected by a series of independent operations, such as mixing, heating, etc. So too magic spells are often represented as a series of chants, designated incense, mudras, mantras, etc. It is not that there is no truth to these representations; however, for most sentient beings, that is otherkin and most normal human beings, as well as, dogs, cats, porpoise and even trees and plants to a certain extent, spell formulations are usually in the form of complexes that evoke certain behaviors from us or invoke particular thoughts and emotions within us. This is perhaps most easily observed and commonly understood in the form of inferiority complexes, authority or anti authority complexes, mother, father, parent complexes (which are often meshed with authority complexes), etc. Although, these are not, by any stretch of the imagination, the only ones. The sense of inferiority one gets when an inferiority complex is invoked is the basic nature of the dark spell and is, in that sense, rather universal. The formula for a particular spell, however, can vary greatly. The formula is usually established as an emotional and traumatic event in one�s early life. The circumstances surrounding the event are often established as the triggers or words of power that evoke the spell. It should be understood that this trigger is usually not a particular word but a formulation of feeling and is often situational. For instance, it is not necessarily the specific word or words that evoke the spell but the tone with which they are delivered. An example of this can be seen quite simply in the admonition that most parents give to their children to not �talk to me in that tone of voice�. It is the tone that is the trigger not the words themselves. So also the word of power can be a song, or some event that evokes the memory of the original situation in which the binding of the spell first occurred. The power of most spells resides in the fact that the individual is not aware that they are under a spell at all. Take for example the anti-authority complex in which an individual has an immediate rebellious reaction to authority. As in most spells the victim of the spell often believes this is be simply a part of their nature or personality. They will say, �that�s just the way I am�, never realizing that that is just the way they have been programmed by a dark spell to be. They often take pride in their rebellion even though it usually causes them to act in ways that are contrary to their own best interests. This is not to say that there are not legitimate reasons and causes to rebel against authority. There are, in deed, more than enough of these. But what is significant is that we choose to do so in the right time and place as benefits us and humanity rather then being merely a pawn of the very forces which oppress us. It is surely true that most individuals who reside in prisons are victims of dark spells. They believe they are being independent by rebelling against authority when in fact they are playing into the hands of their oppressors and �playing their game� and thus keeping themselves bound nearly forever. To undo these dark formulations takes incredible effort and begins with an awareness that we are subject to such spells in the first place. (And all of us are subject to these spells. Anyone who tells you they are totally free are so entranced that they haven't got a clue.) Many instances of depression are a result of a dark invocation prompted by some words of power that have been said to us. Often the person who enacts the spell is not even aware of having done so. This is not to say that there are not manipulators who will deliberately use these spells to control or disable us, but in most instances the forces that are controlling us are invisible and not manifest as a particular human being but are manifesting through an unwitting being. By becoming aware of our tendency to drop into depression, or rebel mindlessly against authority, we become increasingly aware of our own behaviors and in doing so gain Mastery over our own being. This Mastery is the key to all magic. It is important to understand that not all spells are seen as dark or negative formulations. There are also spells which seem very positive in their enactment, for instance, love spells are usually of this sort; and not all spells are indeed dark spells. A special song or occasion might trigger quite positive memories and experiences which are empowering and uplifting to us. It is simply that these positive spells can at times be used to manipulate and control us for the purposes of others. The nationalistic and patriotic spells are often of this type. There is surely nothing wrong with being patriotic or loving one�s nation or people, however, it is important to be aware and ever mindful that there are those who will seek to trigger these spells for their own dark purposes. Again, it is s�elf awareness and s�elf mastery that are the powers that the elves use to counter act such negative and manipulate influences. And while it might seem that removing all such spells is the best way to proceed, this is seldom done and we are not sure if it is even advisable. To remove all spells is to rid ones�elf of all the magics of life and makes for, in these elves opinion, a very dull life. By becoming s�elf aware, we begin to know that spells bind us and begin as well to create the spells which are most effective and useful and empowering to us. This can be observed in what might be called �good work habits� or the tendency of certain artists to create in a special studio or setting that is inspirational for them or puts them �in the mood�. By taking control of the spells of our lives, we take control of our own destiny. Thus these elves, and many others, create an elfin atmosphere to live within. We dress elven, which is to say beautifully, we decorate our homes in an elfin fashion, which is to say beautifully, and all we do, we do with the awareness that our acts are powerful for ours�elves and our others, which is to say lovingly. We create Elfin by our very being. This letter is an act of elfin magic and if it reminds you of the beauty of your own nature, the majesty of life and days long past and yet to come when we shall live together in peace and love and harmony, then our magics have been effective and bright, thus empowering, and you can take this power and use it to make a better life for you and all your others. Open your heart and allow this spell within it and it will help purge all dark spells from you and will set you free to be the �Elf you�ve always wanted to be.
