What
is the Writing Jar?
It's a writing prompt to shake things up! Let's give our writing
a jar!
< jar >- Pronunciation[ jahr]
- to vibrate,
rattle, or shake.
A jolt or shake; a vibrating movement, as from a concussion.
Do you need a whack to the creative side of your
brain, something to get your writing going, something to
fuel an active imagination? Or maybe you're just
bored with the poor quality of television and need
something else to do. Well, the WRITING JAR is for
you! See our Writing Jar rules below.
THE WRITING JAR -
UPDATE
We are now in now in Phase 2 of
our 2nd Edition of the Writing Jar.
The Second Edition of the Writing Jar
began Dec. 11 with Laurie Kolp, Our 1st Edition Grand Prize
winner, drawing our next 30
words. At our January meeting Laurie won the Best
Sentence Award.

Edition Phase 2 Entries
Due
to the problems with the website that we have been
experiencing, we are extending the voting time on The
Writing Jar 2nd Edition Phase 2 through the month of
April ending Monday May 5th, 2008. The winners
will be announced at our May 12th meeting. At this
time the judging is open to all members and prospective
members of the Golden Triangle Writers Guild. This
contest is a fun way to inspire our writing.
Please take the time to vote on your
favorite.

THE WRITING JAR -
RULES
PHASE ONE
We
begin with 30 random words drawn from our 250 words
collection.
- We drew our 2nd Edition set of words at our December 11th
meeting.
- The words are:

Next
take any combination of these words and create a
sentence.
- It can be as short or long as you
like.

*You
cannot add any other words to the list of 30 chosen
words to complete your sentence. You may not
repeat any words.

Bring
your sentence to the meeting. (See the
Writing Jar Update for times and segments)
- If you are unable to attend email your sentence
along with your name, address and phone number to [email protected] by
midnight the night before the meeting. (Central time)
Only one sentence per person allowed.
Open
to members and non-members of all ages.
All
persons present at the meeting will be able to
vote on the best sentence.
The
Winner will receive a 1st place certificate and be listed on
our website.
PHASE TWO *NOW
IS SESSION!*
The
winning sentence will then go on to become the focus of
250 words or less short story, prose, or poetry.

The sentence can be placed anywhere inside your work
(beginning, middle, or end) but must be worded exactly
as the winning sentence was judged. Deadline for the
2nd edition piece is our March 08 meeting. (second
Tuesday of the month at Barnes and
Noble, Beaumont 7:00 pm.) Or you may email by midnight (central time) the evening before
(March 10, 2008 12:00 a.m.) to [email protected]

members will be eligible to vote on the submitted works.
JUDGING
INFO
The Entrant with the most votes will be
awarded 1st place.
The Entrant with the second most votes
will be awarded 2nd place.
The Entrant with the third most votes
will be awarded 3rd place.
Entrants with at least 4 or more votes
will receive a distinguished entry.
Entrants with at least 2 votes will
receive an honorable mention.
All Entrants will receive a participant
certificate.
