| September Troop of the Month 4th grade Junior troop 174 from Prairie Winds was very busy during September. They earned the Careers badge and had 3 women come and talk with the girls about their careers (Graphic Designer, Accountant and Flute Teacher). They participated in a couple of community service projects including collecting personal care items for Tri-Lakes Cares. They also held a bake sale/used video, CD and DVD sale where they raised $360 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and earned the Hurricane Relief Patch. There are 18 girls in this troop, 5 of which are new this year. The girls are very focused on how they treat others and wrote a special promise that they say at each meeting. As a "Thank You" for all of their hard work and contributions, they will be enjoying an ice cream sundae party this week. Thanks to the Monument Safeway for their donation and support of our girls. |

| October Troop of the Month Congratulations to 4th grade Junior troop 542 from Lewis Palmer! This 1st year Junior troop has 21 girls - 6 of which are new this year. They completed several badges during October including Your Outdoor Surroundings, Hiker, Let's Get Cooking, First Aid and Walking for Fitness. They also started working on "Making" Hobbies and "Collecting" Hobbies badges. During their first campout at Hamp Hut in October, they cleaned up the trails in Garden of the Gods and around the camp. They also started planning other service projects that they would like to participate in this year. The girls made tie dyed troop t-shirts that they will wear on field trips and campouts. As "Thanks" for all of their hard work, the girls will be enjoying a movie party complete with soft drinks and popcorn. | February Troop of the Month Congratulations to 5th grade Junior Troop 308!! This troop has 14 girls, 2 of whom were new to the troop this year. They earned the Folk Arts Badge, the World Neighbors Badge, and the Junior Aide Award. They participated in the Beauty of Sign Language council event and learned several words and phrases including the GS Promise and Law. For Thinking Day, the girls planned and helped a Brownie troop with their Bridge to Juniors requirements which included earning the World Neighbors Badge. They talked to the Brownies about what it means to be a Junior GS and taught them songs. Troop 308 also sponsored a multi-level troop from Colorado Springs. They purchased Daisy aprons and sashes for the girls that could not afford them and donated craft supplies to help the new troop. Troop 308 always welcomes new girls; they love to camp and try new things! As "Thanks" for all of their hard work, the girls will be enjoying a movie party complete with soft drinks and popcorn. | November Troop of the Month Congratulations to 2nd grade Brownie Troop 635 from Grace Best Elementary School! This troop has 8 girls, 6 of whom are new to scouting this year. They earned the Earth and Sky Try-It, the Eye Spy Patch, and the Winter Fun Patch. The Eye Spy Event was sponsored by the council and was at the School for the Deaf and Blind. In addition to experiencing the challenges of being fully or partially blind, the girls made and decorated eye patch sticks for pediatric vision testing. Another service project was hiking and cleaning up the Santa Fe Trail in the snow. The girls didn't worry about the weather and made snow angels and enjoyed hot chocolate at the end of the hike. As "Thanks" for all of their hard work, the girls will be enjoying a movie party complete with soft drinks and popcorn. | JanuaryTroop of the Month Congratulations to 9th grade Senior Troop 293!! This troop has 9 girls, 1 of whom has returned to scouting after a two year absence. The girls started January as Cadettes and had a sleepover party where they planned their Court of Awards and Bridge to Seniors Ceremony. They even wrote their own Senior Girl Scout Pledge. As part of the ceremony each girl had a "secret sister" and talked about what made her so special. At the ceremony, 4 girls received their Silver Award bringing the total number of girls in the troop who earned their Silver Award to 5. Two more girls earned the Community Service Award for 25 hours or more of service to one organization in the community. When their scheduled meeting was snowed out, most of the girls earned their Lure of Language IPP by completing activities and e-mailing the results to the troop leader. As "Thanks" for all of their hard work, the girls will be enjoying a movie party complete with soft drinks and popcorn.
