I have been active in art making for over twenty five years, and the work that I create can best be described as portraiture. This work is indebted to the tradition of Early American portrait painting for its honesty, and Colonial handweaving for its richness of surface. I combine processes of painting and weaving with transfer and photo graphic images that become the subject matter.
Although my work is always evolving, I have continued to pursue a basic idea over time. That is how the materials used and the way in which they are handled can become a vehicle for interpreting the expression of the subject. The subjects themselves are true to the genre of portrait making, and are based on friends, family and familiar countenance.
