About Uncle John's Fly Fishing Shack
Uncle John's Fly Fishing Shack is a fishing shop located in Kingfield, Maine. Uncle John is an avid fly fisherman and a registered Maine State Guide of 20 years. He opened the shop in 2003 in the hopes of helping people get the gear and knowledge they need to fly fish in the Western Mountains of Maine. Since then, the shop has grown tremendously and has become an essential stop for fishermen in Maine. The knowledgable staff is able to set you up with the rod you need, the waders for fishing from the water, and all the knowledge you could ask for to get started fishing in the area.

This website was created with the intent of giving Uncle John's Fly Fishing Shack a destination online that is going to allow people to see what the shop is all about, get some information and ask some questions all before they even step foot in the door. To do this, it was important to create a simple site that didn't distract from that objective with wild colors or distracting fonts. Beyond that, it was a matter of choosing content that would be most useful to the users, both written and curated from around the web.
The fonts on the site are universal. They are simple and don't distract from the content. This was a choice made to make it easier for users to navigate the site with ease. Wacky, strange fonts would merely take away from the content. As for the colors, they were also intended to not distract. The dark gray and pale blue are meant to be an easy background to read on while also conjuring up images of water. As for the home page, it was designed to give users a very basic overview of what the shop was. The inclusion of the video on the bottom that teaches people how to cast a fly fishing rod was meant to give starters a chance to see how it's done before they come in to purchase a rod. The about page gave a clear indication to the user who the people are behind the shop, making it feel like not just a faceless business. The contact page kept it very simple with a little bit of text, an image and a form to submit if the user chose. The services and FAQ page were no-nonsense pages that just answered questions, of what the shop did and some common fishing questions in general.
If given more time, I would have loved to have added a small store to the site. This is a really big project, but it feels like the one thing that's missing from the site.
