| Leaders here are some neat fall crafts as with any project try these ahead of time so you are comfortable with the directions sometimes you may even have a better way of doing things. Autumn Wreath You will need: Piece of cardboard white craft glue, sharp knife, pinecones, leaves, acorns, hickory nuts, seed pods. Heres how you do it: Cut a large circle from cardboard (leaders depending on the age level of your troop you may want to do this yourself ahead of time). Next, cut inner circle and you have a wreath shape. Glue pinecones, leaves, acorns, hickory nuts, and seed pods to cardboard until it is completely covered. Make a bow you could use either scrap yarn or perhaps some raffia. Edible Fires Clear ground placemat (can be a sheet of paper) Bucket of water cup of water or kool aid Bucket of sand cup of granola Fire circle M&Ms in a circle Safety circle peanuts in circle about 1 inch outside the fire circle Fuel red rope licorice cut into 3 inch pieces Kindling shoestring potatoes Fire red hots, skittles, etc. Here are some suggestions: Have the girls build their fire in pairs. As you discuss kindling, tinder, fuel, etc have the real thing to show. As you teach about fire safety and how to lay a fire have the girls mimic your actions. When the fires are built properly the girls may eat the items. Practice building a real fire soon after the edible fire activity. Homemade Gooey-gak Heres what you need: wire whisk; 1 cup all purpose glue; cup water; 1 tablespoon tempera paint; borax. Mix together using the wire whisk the glue, water and tempera paint. Either powdered or liquid tempera will work fine. Mix sepearately 1/3 cup water and tsp borax. Slowly pour this mix into glue mix. Let stand a few minutes then knead. Pour off any remaining liquid. Store in zip lock bags. Fruit Loop Necklaces Give the girls a piece of elastic cording approximately 18 inches long and some dry fruit loops. Then let them string the fruit loops on the cording in any pattern they like. Make Your Own . Face & Body Paints Here are 2 easy to do paint recipes make with mostly household items. Body Paints: 2 cups non-irritating baby shampoo & powdered tempura paints. Divide the shampoo into 2 or more portions (depending on how many colors you want). Stir in tempura paint. Kids can smooth this onto their bodies, lathering to make shapes and designs. Comes off easily in the shower. Face Paints: 6 tsp corn starch 3 tsp water 3 tsp cold cream food coloring 6 muffin tins. In each cup of the muffin tin put 1 tsp corn starch, tsp each of cold cream and water. Add a different color food coloring to each cup. Mix well. |
