TV Guide Online Chat with Bonnie Somerville and Lindsay Sloane
February 13, 2001
TV Guide Online: Tonight we are chatting with Lindsay Sloane and Bonnie Somerville from the WB series Grosse Pointe. Hi Lindsay! Hi Bonnie! Thanks for coming!
Sloane: Thank you for having us.
Somerville: Thank you.
Question: So how were Katie and Mark to work with as actors since they are usually on the other side of things?
Sloane: They were great and really nice. Katie did a great job and she looks beautiful.
Question: Do you feel that your characters have evolved over the season?
Sloane: I definitely do. She's realized her obsession with Johnny and she's trying to move on she's in therapy.
Somerville: Courtney had never been in Hollywood before. She can now be a stripper and a prostitute and how to give lapdances.
Sloane: Things every girl should know.
Question: To Lindsay: Are you going to be a permanent blonde now, or will they go back to your own color later?
Sloane: If there is a season #2 there is a chance we're going to see my natural color again. I do finish out the season as a blond.
Question: I love u guys sooooooo much what will you be doing for valentine's day?
Somerville: Well Lindsay has a boyfriend.
Sloane: Our reservations got cancelled cause the weather is so bad. We're going to stay in and cook so hopefully it won't be a disaster.
Somerville: I'm going to take myself somewhere. Disneyland.
Question: Do you get mobbed by fans when you go out?
Sloane: No.
Somerville: Lindsay gets recognized and I don't.
Sloane: We're together all the time and they recognize me and not Bonnie.
Somerville: They just don't recognize me. I don't know if it's good or bad.
Sloane: I love it cause it means they're watching the show.
Somerville: I'd love it if one person came up to me other than my mom.
Question: Of the Feb. guest stars, who were your favorites to work with?
Sloane: I'd have to say Sarah Gellar. Just cause she's a good friend of mine and we never get to act together. And Jason Priestly was the nicest guy.
Somerville: Yeah. Jason was great.
Question: Lindsay, how is the role of Marcy different from Valerie?
Sloane: She's written better. She has red hair. For one thing, Marcy is an actress and Valerie wasn't. I think Marcy is more endearing. Valerie was more of a one dimensional stereotypical girl. Marcy has a really good heart and she's a really good person. And Marcy doesn't talk to animated cats.
Question: I saw you both on the List and it was great to see how well you all seemed to get along. Is this the case?
Both: YEAH!
Somerville: We're best friends.
Sloane: Especially Bonnie and I.
Somerville: All of the guys on the show are so laid back and easy going.
Question: How hard is it to act a very emotional scene in front of the cameras? Do you have to build up to it?
Sloane: It's pretty tough just cause there is so much going on
Somerville: You have to be ready when they're ready. It's a time crunch.
Sloane: It's kind of being at their beck and call so it's not the easiest thing in the world.
Question: Did you act growing up?
Sloane: I started when I was 8. So I've been doing it all through my life.
Somerville: I've always acted in school. I didn't act professionally.
Question: What was your favorite Grosse Pointe show within a show plot?
Somerville: My favorite one was when I was a prostitute and Kim, Marcy's character comes to the club I worked in and get's knocked unconscious. That was the one with Kristin Davis starring.
Sloane: I got to get hit in the head and fly into a wall. It was very dramatic.
Question: Do you have any pets?
Sloane: Yes. A very loud dog named Macy.
Somerville: I have a dog named Stella.
Sloane: They're best friends too.
Question: What are you going to work on during the break?
Sloane: Hopefully something.
Somerville: Yes. Any offers.
Sloane: We're going to work on our tans.
Question: What's your fav tv show after Grosse Pointe?
Sloane: Sex in the City.
Somerville: The Sopranos.
Question: So where did you get the name Grosse Pointe ?
Sloane: The fictional show takes place in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. It's very wealthy. So it's like Beverly Hills.
Somerville: All those shows have to take place in a rich city.
Question: Will there be any more stars as themselves on the show this season?
Sloane: Well Sarah Gellar plays herself on Friday night. On Sunday night we have Elizabeth Berkley, Dweezil Zappa and Striker the DJ from KROCK plays himself.
Question: How involved is Darren Star?
Somerville: He's very involved since the pilot since he wrote it.
Sloane: I think it was harder since he was going back and forth between The Street and Sex and the City. Now he's being very proactive and doing interviews. He's telling us who we have to sleep with to get the show on the air for a second season. :)
Question: Do each of you have your own web site?
Sloane: Yes. Not that we've made ourselves.
Somerville: I don't have a website, but my mom bought my name though. So coming soon is BonnieSomerville.com or org.
Sloane: It's very flattering that people took the time to make sites for us and the show.
Question: Who did you look up to growing up?
Somerville: My mom.
Sloane: My mom. If I didn't say her and Bonnie did, I would get in such trouble.
Somerville: No I really did, I looked up to my mom.
Question: What type of music do you listen to ?
Somerville: Everything. My tastes are very eclectic. I listen to RAP, Jazz Rock. I'm big on Coldplay.
Sloane: I'm big on Crazy town. David Gray.
Somerville: Dido.
Sloane: Bonnie Somerville. You can buy her CD at bonniesomerville.com.org
Somerville: Not yet.
Question: Any advice for aspiring actors?
Somerville: Get a thick skin now. Don't be hurt by rejection.
Sloane: Stick with it, cause people are going to try and discourage you.
Somerville: Don't take it too seriously.
Sloane: Don't take anything to serious and have fun.
Somerville: Save your money.
Question: Will the season end on a cliffhanger?
Both: Yes. Yes. Somebody gets married. On a cliff. So it ends on a cliff and it's a cliffhanger. It's a big celebrity wedding.
TV Guide Online: Thanks ladies! We'll be watching on Friday! Please come back soon!
Sloane: Thank you so much for your Questions. Please watch the show and tell your friends about it so we don't get cancelled.
Somerville: We need to feed our dogs.
TV Guide Online: Be sure to catch this Friday's special episode of Grosse Pointe at 9:30 PM ET on the WB! And again on Sunday at it's regular time.
