Stephen Wright has been selected by some, as the most promising defender among Liverpool's rising home-grown talent. Wright emerged from the Liverpool Academy in Kirby.

Stephen, who made his Liverpool debut in the 8-0 demolision of Stoke City in the Worthington Cup was on loan to Crewe Alexandra two seasons ago when he unfortunatley broke his leg. The incident happened when he was running for the ball with Paul Dalglish aginst Norwich City. Wright recovered from the injury and went back to Crewe  to get 1st team experience. Now he is back in Liverpool, trying to force his way way into the Liverpool defence.

Stephen, made his Premiership debut in February '01 against West Ham United and he went on to set up Liverpool's second goal for Robbie Fowler as Liverpool won 3-0. He made 4 appearances in total for the 1st team last season.

Stephen has seldom been in the English U-21 squad and he will be looking to get more 1st team appearances next season so he can get into the U-21 squad, once again.
