Daniel Sjolund, a Finnish U-21, came to Liverpool from west Ham United in December 2001 in a deal that saw Rigobert Song go in the opposite direction. Sjolund, who was a Liverpool supporter as a young buy moved to West Ham United from a first division club in Sweden.
He never made a first team appearance for the Hammers and only played in some reserve matches. He signed for West Ham, without the knowledge that the club he supported were interested in him. He found out a week later after signing for West Ham.
Houllier made this signing for the future so don't expect to see the Finish player in first team action anytime soon. He is a regular in the reserves and does get on the score sheet frequently.
He does have company as there are also two other Finish players at the club in, Litmanen and Hyypia. |
