After months and months of speculation, I don't think anyone was surprised when Chris Kirkland finally became a Liverpool player. Everyone was just surprised how the transfer happened. Kirkland was signed on the same day as Liverpool #1, keeper, Jerzy Dudek.
It was no secret that Kirkland was #2, as Gerard Houllier confirmed after the signing of these two world class keeper. Kirkland had been heavily linked with Liverpool throughout the season and when Coventry were eventually relgated, he decided to give up his #1 keeper position in Coventry to come and play for Liverpool.
He is currently England's U-21, keeper and he is a future talent that Liverpool have in their ranks.
Houllier broke the english transfer record for a Keeper when signing Chris and he also managed to buy him in time to register him for Champions League action. Chris supported Liverpool as a boy and when the offer came knocking on his door, he couldn't resist.
Chris has already made some appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League and the Champions league and he is definately going to make a lot more before his Liverpool career is over, which won't be anytime soon. |
