Stephane came to Liverpool from Premiership newcomers, Blackburn. At the time when he came, they had just been relegated to Division 1. Henchoz was voted the club's player of the season that year but he wanted to continue playing top flight football and Liverpool gave him that opportunity. He was an absolute bargain at 3.5 million pounds.
Henchoz didn't have the best of start to his Liverpool career as he was sidelined with a groin injury until September. Once, he was in the team, the difference was clear. His magnificebt understanding with Sami Hyypia helped Liverpool to the best defence in the Premiership that season.
Henchoz has played club football in his home country Switzerland, Germany and now England. He has twice worked with English coach Roy Hodgson. First at Neuchetel Xamax and then at Blackburn. He is also a regular in the Swiss National side.
Stephane's second season at Anfield was almost as good as his first, his understanding with Hyypia brought 'The Reds' a lot of success. Stephane doesn't get as much credit as other defenders but he needs to be recognized for his hard work. He always gives 100% when he is on the field. |
