Bernard Diomede came to Liverpool from french outfit Auxerre for 3 million in the summer of 2000. He wasn't getting games at Auxerre becasue of his relationship with the manager.
Diomede's time at Liverpool has been very frstrating for him as he has only made a handful of appearances in his two year stay and this due to injury and the form of other players. Diomede showed some good signs during pre-season especially against Ajax where he set up Jari Litmanen's goal in front of his former supporters. Many thought that this was a sign of things to come but it wasn't. Diomede hasn't played for the first team this season in the Premier League of the Champions League and it would be a real surprise if he was still at Anfield next season.
He was supposed to return to France during the summer of 2001 but the deal fell through with the club in France and he remained at Anfield. When Diomede hasn't been playing for the reserves, he's spent his time on the substitute bench. He is a small, fast and very skillful winger.
Speculation is that Diomede doesn't really get on with any of the Liverpool players and has found it very hard to settle in and many have questioned his determination. Anyways, he is the only player at Anfield who can boast of a World CUp medal which he won with France in 1998. He made three appearances in the competition. Since then, he has not been recalled to the national team and can't even get into the Liverpool 1st team.
He is almost definately going to leave at the end of the season, that's if he can find any takers.
