Jamie is a local lad and has made his way up the ladder, from the academy to the first team. Jamie signed as a professional in October '96.

Jamie started going to the Academy when he was a schoolboy. He has come up and was able to hold down a first team place last season. Jamie, scored on his league debut for Liverpool against Aston Villa after already making his 1st team debut when he came on as a substitute for Rob Jones in the Worthington Cup (then known as Coca-Cola Cup) semi-final against Middlesbrough.

Jamie is a versatile player and has played in every defencive position for Liverpool. He first played in mid-field, then he was moved to the centre-back position, then after the signing of Henchoz and Hyypia, Houllier moved him to right-back, then after the signing of Babbel, he was moved to left-back. And now that Houllier has signed Riise, I wonder where he will feature next.

Jamie, is a tough tacking defender and gives his all, when he puts on the legendry Liverpool shirt. But he needs to improve on his attacking game and become more like Babbel, who scored 6goals for Liverpool last season. If you watch him play, most of the time he passes, it's either to the keeper of another defender. I guess, he fells it's better to be safe than sorry.

Jamie holds the record for the number of appearance at U-21 level. He has also played with the senior squad and after making his senior debut in April '99, he is looking to make himself a regular in the English side.
