Patrik Berger hasn't been all good since his 3.2 million pound move from German outfit, Borussia Dotmund in 1996. Berger, caught the eye of Roy Evans, during Euro '96 as he played a big part, in Czech Republic's road to the Final.
Patrik, started his career in his native Czech Republic with Slavia Prague which also included his best mate, Vladimir Smicer. He then moved to the Bundesligia, with Borussia Dortmund in 1995. He won the Bundesliga title, the follwing season. He, then moved to Liverpool shortly, after the Euro '96 Championships.
At one point, he was on the verge of leaving Anfield because he wasn't playing regularly under Roy Evans but he decided to stay and under Gerard Houllier has played fanstastic.
Patrik, is very hard working on the field and loves to attack, and under Gerard Houllier has also learnt to do a little bit of defending. He is said to have the hardest shot in the Liverpool team according to his team-mates. His shot isn't only hard but also accurate and he is also dangerous from dead ball situations.
Patrik, played his part in Liverpool's treble-winning season but injured himself against Leeds United in the 4-3 defeat and was forced to miss a lot of the season.
Patrik made his International debut in 1993 and will always be remembered in his Country's history as he scored the only goal, (from the penalty spot), as Czech Republic lost 2-1 to Germany in the Finals of Euro '96 at Wembly.
Berger announced his retirement from international football in march 2002 and he will be dearly missed by is Czech team mates. |
