Ambush Mattias Widmark and Christian Wictorin May 12, 1994
This is a small-medium sized level that is quite tough at times. It's somewhat of a puzzle level, though not quite at
Barrel2's level. Texture and theming is random. Basically, if you're looking for an interesting challenge, and don't mind a little thinking and randomness, check it out. 4/5
AMFDoom AMFler October 1, 1997
Quite possibly the worst level set I've ever played. Texturing and structure are random, design sucks, and action is mediocre. As if to slap me in the face, not only is the new music totally inappropriate for Doom, it sucks as well. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about these levels; stay away!

DOOMED to Run Amok v1.1 (Amok11t.wad) David L. Davis August 30, 1994
This WAD is by the author of DM1toDM2, which makes for interesting trivia. At any rate, its pretty good. Design is a little off-grid and texturing is random, but on the whole it looks pretty good, and even has some genuinely neat touches thrown in. It also includes some new textures, which arent bad at all, besides the frozen FWATER flat. But most notably, this WAD is jam-packed with monsters. I havent seen this much ass-kicking crammed in since Aurora1.wad. Finally, it contains a new music file that I was going to use in my totally incomplete third WAD, Biohazard. Its probably one of my favorite pieces of Doom replacement music. So, check it out!

Ander 2.0 (Ander2.wad) Magnus Ander October 8, 1999
A fun medium-sized map. Texturing and structure is basically random, but design is good, set up to minimize backtracking. Unfortunately the Automap is somewhat FUBARed, so don't rely on it too much. Gameplay is good, and ammo is somewhat tight in some parts.

A crappy E2M8 replacement. There's some music that sounds awful at the beginning but gets better. Starts off in a room with four Soulspheres and a backpack, goes into a hallway with two branches that lead into two small rooms littered with rocket boxes (and a rocket launcher in one room), and finally empties into a large, bland, square arena with three Spider Masterminds and three Cyberdemons. Yay, infighting. Interestingly, all three of the Cyberdemons were killed. Considering that I rarely see *one* lose, three losing at the same is quite a feat.

Trigger Happy (AndyTrig.wad) Andy Horne September 11, 1994
A small level in a wood and marble theme. New sounds are retarded and necessary doors are hidden. Action is alright.

An E1M3 Level (AnE1M3Lv.wad) MegaZzZeux December 21, 2003
A fun short level. Mainly in E1 style, with some crates. New music is alright. Level design is good.

Gates of Anguish (Anguish.wad) David L. Farrington July 30, 1994
This level starts off good, with a real sweet looking REDROCK hangar. But it develops into a huge, sprawling, boring maze. And to top it off all the doors are unmarked. It actually reminds me of Grayday. Detail and architecture are lacking, and so is the action.

Annex of Death (Annex.wad) Ryan McGrail July 8, 1994
Short, random structure, random theming with E3, eseential doors are hidden (but fortunately not blocked from the Automap.)
3/5
The Anomaly: Part II (anomaly2.wad) Varun Abhirama Krishna May 15, 2001
A fun, short level. Theme is mainly wood/marble/metal. Architecture is very good. Action is good as well, including a tough final fight. The new music is also good.  The secrets were very tough though. I couldn't find most of them.
5/5
A Nukage River Runs Through It (ANRRTI.wad) GEM November 5, 1994
Random theming and structure. Essential doors are hidden, but there's a computer area map, so it's not much of a problem. Action is alright.
3/5
Perdition's Anteroom (Anteroom.wad) Evan H. Bynum July 27, 1994
Random structure and theming, but level design is enjoyable. Starts off in a central room, and from there you have four choices as to where to go, you have to go through 'em all to win, etc. Action is pretty good. An overall fun map; only old-school haters should stay away.

anthill May 10, 1994
This WAD is allegedly based off of some Real Life place, so gameplay is somewhat open-ended, and design ends up different than most. Texturing, though, is random. Action is alright, but the neat part of this WAD is a Cyberdemon that menaces you while you're outside. It's short, and kinda interesting, so you might want to take a look.

AnyNCE11 (An11.wad) Owen Robertson June 12, 1994
This is a pretty big level with large, off-grid design and totally random texturing. Despite this, each individual area usually isnt too bad, and it has a few genuinely neat moments. (Especially the second roomId recommend downloading it just for that.) It opens in one of those long Run the Doomguy over a bunch of powerups hallways. But in the end, the action is pretty tough, with health in short supply. This level reminds me of one of those Doom 2 WADs whose sole purpose was to pound you into oblivion with enemies. Overall, its tough enough and has just enough neat moments (including one of the most dick things Ive ever seen in a Doom WAD) to make it worth checking out. Just as long as you dont hate old-school, somewhat crappy design. By the way, the new music fails, its simply the Hangar music, only with pianos instead of guitars. Har.

The Dungeon of Aoxozoxoa (Aox.wad) Geoffrey Oliver November 19, 1994
This a conversion of a D&D map, so it's basically a maze with rooms and one courtyard. You start off somewhat well-stocked due to the "camp" beginning area. Action is mediocre; there are some rooms that are simply filled with enemies. The final fight, however, is pretty good, so you might want to check it out for that. Otherwise,
2/5.
Co-op: Pending, promises to be pretty neat
The Aphexius mines (Aphexius.wad) Stuart D. Smith August 20, 1995
Basically a bunch of elevators, passageways, and mini-caves. Texturing kinda sucks. To its credit, action is pretty frantic due to the tight passageways. Kinda neat, *might* want to play it if you have the time.

The Apocalypse Project (Apocalyp.wad) Daniel Hornbaker November 10, 1994
A fun E1 replacement. Level design is pretty good, and usually design makes sense as for where you're supposed to be; dungeons, bases, caverns, whatever, design generally matches. (Albeit in that old-school way.) The locales you visit vary, but there's continuity between the levels (the end of one level is the beginning of another), so there's a nice sense of progression not present in a lot of multi-level WADs. Unfortunately, the texturing in the base levels is pretty random, especially in E1M6; fortunately there's only about three base levels. Also, level design in E1M6 is pretty random as well. E1M9 is really neat, and probably one of my favorite levels. Action is good. Overall, a fun set of levels with a nice sense of progression; definitely should be checked out.
4/5
The Apocalypse (apoch1.wad-apoch5.wad) Rick Clark May 7, 2000-May 22, 2000
This series of five WADs is quite good. Its texturing is more or less E1. Architecture is good, along with action; it's quite tough in some places. They're all small to smallish-medium. A pretty fun set of WADs overall.
