Things to Think About * |
here are some of the thousand things i think about. i will put more up later if they aren't too boring. Music i will tell you, there are some bands that really piss me
off. the offpsring are so sucky and the lead singer can't sing worth shit;
they only made it big because other record companies had to compete with
green day in the mid 90's. metallica serioulsy pisses me off, not cuz of
their music but because of all this shit they are doing recently. like
napster! who straight gives a god damn? they are already millionaires,
they are not going to go fucking hungry cuz some kids are downloading some
free music from them. usually the people who download their songs weren't
going to buy their CD's in the first place, or it even might CONVINCE them
to buy their CD's, so there is nothing to freak out over. whenever lars
talks, i wish i could just stick him in his face, he thinks he is such a
big shot in the music 'biz. no wonder their bassist left the damn band, if
i had to hear lars' whiney ass voice again and again for a decade i would
too. they're hippocrites anyways, i've heard them say in interviews
(before the napster incident) that when they were younger how they loved
music and often copied each other's tapes. can you say
"hippocrites" again? yes, i think you can.
Affirmative Action i started thinking about this the otehr day when i saw in the newspaper, for the 500th time, that a business was being sued by an african-american organization because they hadn't hired enough african-americans. they claimed that the hiring practices of the business were racially biased and unfair to minorities. now MAYBE there is a chance that is true, but i don't think it is at all. in case you start thinking i am prejudice, then read the rest and it will explain to you perfectly.
in case you didn't know, affirmative action means that certain businesses have to hire a certain amount of african-american employees. in theory, it is supposed to reduce discrimination. in some cases it does, but in some cases it CREATES discrimination. that is why i think it needs to be reformed or SOMETHING.
for example, say a large corporation has an openining for vice-president. two people are trying to get the job: me, and an african-american, who we'll call bob. now I went to harvard's school of business for 6 years, and got my master's degree in business. i also have been working for 15 years in other businesses, so i have a lot of education and experience. bob went to indiana university for 4 years and got a bachelor's degree in business, and he is just out of college with no experience. who would you THINK the company would hire? me? no, because they have to follow an affirmative action policy. so even though bob is less qualified than i am for the job, he has to be hired anyways, because he is african-american. so that is a benefit to him, simply because of his race. in my opinion, this is discrimination against me. this example was a little exagerated, but you get the point.
i mean sure, maybe white males dominate a lot of the high-powered jobs out there. so i could see why they came up with this, to give other people a chance. but nowadays everyone is so obsessed with pleasing every single group of people! so wiht that in mind, the politicians damn well better make a plan that pleases EVERYONE, including white males, or don't make a plan at ALL. all this political correctness kills me. |
