                                                   This is me...........then

My name is Guythano Randy Harlianto (yeah I know, long names) and I was born on 18th March, the same date as Ajax Amsterdam was made, in Surinam. I live with my parents and my sister Arty. At the age of 10 we left Surinam and flew to Holland to avoid the economical and political situation at that moment.

My life in Surinam:
In Surinam we lived in a village with a population of 5.000, so everybody knows everybody. As far I can remember I lived a "normal" life as a child.
I remembered I did some naughty things like everybody at a very young age. I did e.g. threw little stones to the grandma of the boy next door when we played "hit me if you can" (I didnt realise that his grandma was behind the fridge because the window was small). Another thing that I also did, and is still sticks in my mind, is that I was danced with a girl named Tiffany. There was a birthday party in our village and our family were invited. I was sitting with my family and Tiffany with hers.
After a cupple of hours I got bored so I asked her to dance (because I saw she wanted to dance and also because she was very nice to me, she brought candys for me when she came back from vacation in Holland and I did the same when I came back from Curacao) and I am telling you EVERYBODY was looking at us.
Other kids who also danced, danced with a relative but we didnt. I did many other naughty things like every other kids do at a young age but I will not tell you that because some of them are just embarrasing.

How a normal day looked like in Surinam:
I had to wake up at 7.00 am and I took a shower. After that I had to dress myself up and then I had a breakfast. After the breakfast it was time to go to school.
Before 8.00 am I arrived and said hi to the class. When it was 8.00 am the whole school had to be present at the schoolyard to sing the national anthem of Surinam. When finished everybody returned to their class again. At 1 pm the school is out so I walked with friends back home (The times of school are everyday the same, from 7.00 am to 1.00 pm and every pupil wears uniform). When I arrived back home I freshed myself up, had a lunch and watch telly until 3.00 pm. From 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm it was time to make homework. At the time of 5.00 pm some friends came to our house to play soccer or other sports until it became night. Then I walked to the back of our house to take a shower and before I had to go to bed I watched telly or went to family or friends. When its vacation, I often went with my family to Curacao.

My life in Holland:
The first cupple months in Holland was very difficult for us. Not only difficult because the weather, but also because of the situation how we lived. We lived with 4 other people in a small house in a apartment and those people made also things like crisps for restaurants, so you can imagine how busy it always was. After a cupple months we had our very own house in the same apartment. It was very delighting but our house was at the seventh floor. If the elevator didnt work we had to take the stairs up or down and when we finally arrived we were very exhausted. After living a cupple months in the apartment we finally moved in to the house where we lives now.
We lives in a family house thats one minute away from the nearest subway and five minutes from the nearest shopping-centre. Our neighbourhood is quit lively, often things happens here. My neighbours our completely different from each other. Our left neightbours our very nice and we often have a chat, but with our right neighbours there is obviously something wrong with them, especcialy with the man. If you say hi to him he turns away and say nothing. At the time we went to Surinam my left neighbour had a row with my right neighbour because of our village-cat named Marrie. She was stuck in the garden of my right neigbour and they send their dogs to attack Marrie and my left neighbour saw it and yelled at them tham they are crazy.

How a normal day looks like in Holland:
In Holland it depends how my day starts. If I have to go school early, I wake up at 7.30 am, have a breakfast and then take a shower. At 8.30 am I walk to the subway and I arrive at 9.00 am at school. A normal schoolday ends at 12.30 am and then I go  home, change clothes and watch telly or make homework. At 11.30 pm or later I go to bed. When its vacation I often go with family to e.g. Germany or Belgium. In the summer some of my relatives in Surinam comes to Holland to spent their vacation here. I also go to football-matches from Ajax, concerts, American Football from the Amsterdam Admirals (well, last time was almost a year or two ago, because they often lose). I dont go to the movie anymore because I watch some of them somewhere else.

Something that I have to confess:
My first thoughts of this change of live is that I never thought it would be forever. I thought that we were going on vancation again but then in Holland.
The first time I realised it was forever it was at the time I went to primary school. I met a girl and all that kinda things you know.

Here are some questions which I hope that gives you an idea how I am:
What is the most important thing in your life?
An important thing in my life is to be happy and enjoy it. If you not smile one day, you didnt live one day. I also find it important to have someone, you can rely on, trust and share everything (not only family, but also people from outside).
The most important thing in my life are the people who are next to me; my family (here and in Surinam), who I can trust me and they supports me in every single way even when they lives so far away from us. My friends which I can laugh with and talks about sometimes nothing. If there is something with them I always try to help them by listening to them.

If you had a date with a lady, how would you spend it?
Well, firstly I would go to the movie, then take her to the beach for a walk. After that we could go to a restaurant or home to have a dinner. If we choose to go home,
we could cook together and I would spend the rest of the night with her.

What do you appreciate in your life?
What I appreciate in my life is also whats the most important things in my life. But I also appreciate honestly, I dont like it when people are faking that they like me and behind my back thy say bad things. The thing what I mostly appreciate is that people are happy when I am around them, if they are not, I always try to make them happy.

If you and your family going back to Surinam to spent a vacation there, what supriced you and what were your first impressions?

Everytime things surprices me. E.g. the first time we went to Surinam, 96, it surpriced how some people reacts to us. The second time, 00, it surpriced me about the fact that a window of my old school was fixed after years and there was a bridge made in Surinam from the city to my village. Last summer was the surprise that the road of the village were we used to live, was grinded. And all the people who drives there are racing, so you have to be alert. And everytime my first impression were that I am home again.
