| Engine Pull - July 2002 | |||||||||||||
| I have owned my 1986 T-type for just over a year now and enjoyed nearly 20K trouble-free miles in that time. The car has been good to me so now it was my turn to be good to it. So, on Thursday, July 25th, a good friend of mine and I started tearing into my 119,750 mile T-type. Because of my busy schedule, I only had one weekend to get the car apart and back in running order as it is my daily driver. After over 40 hours of working on the car, it was back together and running again on Sunday, July 28th at 3am thanks to many of my friends help. I just wanted to say thanks again to Bryan, Mark, Zak, Ryan, as well as many others! Below you will find a few pictures of the engine pull and freshening along with details on what I did to the engine while it was out. Enjoy. | |||||||||||||
| RIGHT: Here we go! This is a picture of Bryan and Mark getting the engine hoist into the garage with beer in hand. No, I didnt spit in it man, lol. At this point, the engine was ready to pull. It took us about 2 hours or so to get the engine completely out and on the stand. | |||||||||||||
| LEFT: This is a picture of Bryan and I saying to ourselves "hey, that wasnt so bad! So, wheres my frickin beer and the handcleaner?" Oh yeah, that discusting greasy mess on the chain in the background is the 119,750 engine ready to be freshened and cleaned. | |||||||||||||
| RIGHT: Here is a picture of the engine late Friday night pretty much torn down. The plan of attack was replace the timing chain and gear, valve springs, rod and main bearings, rear main seal, front cover seal, and all the other major gaskets on the engine with new Felpro rubber. I did not pull the heads or any of the rotating assembly. As you can see in the background, everyones doing a good job of watching.:) Just kidding. I kept the beer flowing so everyone was happy, lol. | |||||||||||||
| LEFT: Here is the bottom end of the motor with the crank out. The bearings didnt look too terrible, but I decided to replace them anyway. The crank looked great for 119K+ miles. The only "problem" we had was that the cam would not pull out. It appeared that the front cam bearing was not in totally straight? But it rotated fine and no problems before, so I decided to leave it alone. If it aint broke done fix it right??? *Shrugs* | |||||||||||||
