| Explanation: I woke up at almost 2 in the morning with the opening 6 lines of this poem. Its basis lies in the concept of what we have been given by God. The title leads the reader to see and think "Forgiven" yet in truth it is two words written "For" and "Given". The phrase is first the preposition "for" and then "given" used as a noun symbolizing all the gifts of the Lord. Throughout the poem there are references to what I have done in life, yet still what God has deemed worthy to give me even in spite of that. This poem is a memorial to those gifts of grace and mercy just as Christ's sacrafice on Golgotha was and is a rememberance to us. This poem is also the first piece of mine that will be published. It will be a poem included in Spring 2003's National Poetry Anthology. |
