This is me at a rehearsal for a play that we were featuring on
a local public affairs program. The camera I'm using is a JVC GY-DV500. It
is a new camera that uses digital video tape.
Here are some links to sites that I find useful when looking for information
about video and film production. Some of these sites contain information
about equipment, while others relate more to the business of video production.
Then there are those I go to for inspiration. Many of these sites are companions
to print magazines that are available at most major bookstores. This page
is always changing so if you know of any other sites that I may find useful,
please send me an email.
Videomaker Magazine
I like to call this site "video production for dummies." This is the best
source I have found for basic information on production techniques and equipment.
It is primarily geared toward the video production hobbyist, but as a professional
I have often found the information it offers useful.
VideoUniversity.com
If you are interested in starting a video production business of your
own, then this site is a must. It offers numerous articles an the various
types of video production, as well as printable forms that you can use to
work with your clients.
TechTV
This site complements the great programs that air on the TechTV television
network. This site has information on just about anything computer related
including digital video production.
B&H Photo and Video
The is the site for B&H Photo and Video based in New York City. These
guys have just about anything you would ever want related to film and video.
I bought the camera that I am using in the picture above from B&H, and
I got a great price on it. They usually have the best prices around, but
just don't try to contact them on a Friday. The owners of the company are
Jewish fundamentalists so they take Fridays off.
AV Video & Multimedia Producer
This is one of those inspiration sites I was talking about. It is a great
resource for finding out what other people in the industry are doing. Each
year they have the "Multimedia Producer Top 100" which is a list of who they
consider to be the top producers in the industry. Darn it !! I'm not on
the list again ! There must be some mistake....
Markertek
This is another equipment supplier. I buy my odds n' ends stuff from these
guys. They have everything that B&H does, but are a little more expensive.
The best thing about these guys is that their site is much easier to use
than B&H's.
Electronic Media
This is the companion site for Electronic Media Magazine. This is the
best resource I have found for information about the business of television.
This site covers news about all the major broadcast networks and film companies.
They also have interviews with some of the major players in the television
industry. This is a great place to look for jobs too.
AtomFilms
This another one of those inspiration sites. AtomFilms features work from
independent and amateur producers from all over the world. The types of work
featured include film and video, computer animation, traditional animation,
even claymation. Don't miss the Star Wars fan film section, its a hoot !
Triggerstreet
This site is pretty new, so I don't know too much about it. It is another
independent film site that was recently introduced by noted actor Kevin Spacey.
It is currently in its opening stages, so it could be a good place
to get a short film or video to a new audience quickly.
View Askew Productions
This is the official website of the world's most famous independent producer,
Kevin Smith. It features information about Kevin's movies, as well as the
usual merchandise, etc. The coolest thing about this site is that it contains
a message board that Kevin posts to regularly. He answers fan questions and
just generally talks about his day. He is partially responsible for putting
Ben Affleck on the map. I never really liked Ben Affleck, but he was the
bomb in "Phantoms" (inside joke).
