The Future of Internet Video

As technologies improve and bandwidth increases, the quality of Internet video will improve. As this occurs, it will be accepted by wider audiences.
We are quickly approaching a “video on demand” scenario, where television programs are requested and viewed anywhere at anytime.

The WB Network is currently experimenting with Internet video in its smaller markets. Instead of traditional network affiliates, the network signal is streamed via Internet to local cable providers. This method requires huge amounts of bandwidth and special equipment, but it is currently being used in the Gainesville area.

Television and Internet media will someday be so integrated that it will be difficult to tell one from another. Television viewers will be able to surf the Internet while watching TV on the same device. Internet video will also revolutionize person-to-person communications such as video teleconferencing.

As the capabilities of handheld devices evolve, internet video will come to users of cell phones, personal data assistants, and other small electronic devices.

The possibilities are limitless.
