| Title: Sick Days are No Fun Chapter 13 Author: Dragon_Wolf E-mail: [email protected] Status: WIP Series Archive: Yes to [email protected] and archive. Rating: FRAO Pairing: Nick-Greg-Gil Greg after Nick had left still didn't feel right, there was no doubt about it. He rang for a nurse who came immediately and saw that Greg wasn't doing so good. She had no idea what was causing Greg's new problem there was something wrong definitely and she called for Dr. Watkin's. Greg's skin had begun to flake and red with itchy sections that were spreading. When Dr. Watkin's came running he immediately saw how bad Greg had become "Nurse sedate him immediately, HEAVY Sedation. I don't want him trying to scratch himself to death." Nurse Simpson came running when she heard Dr. Watkin's yelling. "Nurse call his family immediately after what happened last time I don't want anymore trouble with them and tell them his exact condition." Dr. Watkin's told her. "Yes Doctor right away." Nurse Simpson ran and did as she was told. Dr. Watkin's turned to the other nurse giving him the sedation "Who was the last person besides his family to be here and how long ago?" "His family left when you told them too and the last person to be in here after you completed rounds was the PCP to give him his bed bath." Nurse Makepeace announced. "Where was the equipment he used and get him back here now. There is going to be hell to pay when the family gets here." He commanded. Gil woke up on the first ring of the phone. He grabbed the portable he put at the bedside before he and Nick fell asleep. "Hello, Emily what's wrong? We'll be right there. Call Brass and the team and tell them to bring there gear I want to examine everything before they tamper with it. Tell that directly to who is in charge the equipment is now ours to deal with." Gil told her. By this time Nick had woken up and listened and was frightened and then angry by what he heard Gil say. Gil looked down at Nick and said. "Don't ask just get dressed something happened to Greg after we left the hospital. I'm going as well screw the orders. The rest of the team and Brass are meeting us there." Gil Ordered. Nick didn't say anything but hurried and even though he was younger than Gil, Gil was dressed and grabbing the keys for the Denali by the time he got to the door of the apt. They raced to the hospital light's blazing. When they got too the hospital they saw Brass's car in the police spot and felt better knowing that at least he would clear the way for Gil to come on property. Having the police liaison as your friend and worker helps sometime. He and Nick reached the floor to find that Catherine and Warrick were there with Jim. Also Gil saw Emily and Mary clutching each other outside Greg's room crying. "What happened and why are Emily and Mary crying?" Nick demanded. "After everyone left this morning Greg buzzed the nurses saying he wasn't feeling very well. They came and in and immediately called Dr. Watkin's to advise on the change in Greg's condition." Catherine explained. Nick looked toward the room not knowing what to expect. Catherine continued "The doctor came in and immediately put Greg under heavy sedation again because of a new problem. This is something new totally unforeseen and new to his existing problems." "What happened Catherine with the equipment used? Did they isolate it like I asked?" Gil Questioned. "Yes and Warrick is in the staff room examining it as we speak." Catherine Replied. Just then the doctor came out and closed the room behind him. "Everyone let's go to the waiting room so that I can explain what happened to everybody in private." He said to the assembled group. Jim went and got Warrick so he could be briefed as well and he had a patrol officer one of his own lock and guard the evidence before Warrick left. When everybody was in the room, Dr. Watkin's first turned to Gil and apologized "Mr. Grissom I am sorry about what I said and all restrictions on visitation have been lifted. I also apologize to everyone I didn't believe there would be any problems with Nurse Simpson. That was my mistake I will be taking full responsibility for that with the hospital administrator." He sighed and then continued. "It turns out that the PCP who came in to do the personal care on Mr. Sander's this morning was a friend of Nurse Simpson's." At this everyone exploded. When the group settled down he continued "Detective Brass now has Tyler Goodwin in custody. I am not sure as yet what he used on Greg but I will tell you it caused an immediate skin reaction, which resulted in red areas and he couldn't stop scratching himself. I had him put under immediate sedation because of the extent of his body's reaction." Warrick stood from the wall where he was leaning and said "The chemical was bleach which Greg is allergic too. We all know that and I took a look at his chart and its right there under allergies. This Tyler Goodwin must have put some in the soap that he used to bath Greg earlier." "My question is why was this man allowed to get anywhere near my son knowing the problems we have had with this Nurse Simpson?" Emily asked angrily. "That was a fault of overnight staffing I am afraid." He explained. "It turns out that Tyler Goodwin was called in when the regular staff got sick and by chance he had talked to Nurse Simpson the night before and she had told him what to do to Greg this morning." "I again apologize for this happening I didn't think that any of the hospital staff would ever do anything like this ever." Dr. Watkins explained regretfully. "Dr. that is no excuse I am afraid when it comes to my brother. I need to know that this kind of thing won't happen again." Mary exclaimed. "What has happened to this Tyler Goodwin and Nurse Simpson?" "Mr. Goodwin is in custody now and there has been an APB issued for Nurse Simpson believe me we will get her." Jim answered. Emily who was sitting next to him took his hand in hers and gave it a squeeze "Thank you Jim I appreciate all your help with getting this person." Jim blushed and caught his breath. Everybody chuckled and felt a little better. "In regards to Greg's condition I have gave him an antibiotic to combat his allergic reaction so he will be better soon." Dr. Watkin's explained. "I have already contacted staffing and had them go over all shift rotations to make sure anyone that works on a daily basis with Nurse Simpson is not assigned to this unit at all." "Thank you for that doctor but I am going to insist that one of us meaning this group. That is anyone willing too. To supervise and help with My Son's personal care I don't want anything like this happening again. Try as much as you can with the staffing issue if it has happened once chances are it will happen again and frankly. I won't allow that." Emily commanded. Looking at the group assembled Emily asked "Do I have other volunteers besides Gil and Nick?" "I will." Catherine said. "Me too." Sara added. "If you think Greg would let me I will too." Warrick asked. "At this point, I don't think he will have a problem at all with any help. Thank you all." Emily cried and Mary held her mother. "I will let everyone know and there won't be any problems at Mrs. Sanders." Dr. Watkins explained. "Now can we go see Greg?" Gil asked. "Yes but be quiet and be prepared the bleach did do an number on him I want too warn you in advance." He added. The group left the room and went to see Greg. The doctor was right when they went into the room as he lifted the sheet off the framework around the bed, which had been put in place. They didn't want the sheets touching his skin anymore than necessary. They all gasped at the site before them Greg's skin was red flakey and blotchy as Dr. Watkins had reiterated. It still was a shock to see it though. None of them could say anything because even though Greg was heavily sedated they could see the pain on his face. They all wanted to comfort him but didn't because of the pain it would cause him, when they touched him. The thought in Nick's head was wait till he got a hold of Nurse Simpson he would find a way to do the same thing to her that she had done to his Greg, and no one was going to stop him. |
