The Truth is...
True Christianity IS NOT about obeying some rules, regulations, or rituals -- i.e. it is not about religion or relying on your own goodness -- rather it is about having an ongoing and intimate relationship with the God who created you and loves you immeasurably.
God says, "...no one will be declared righteous by observing the law; rather, through the law you become conscious of wrong doing." - Romans 3:20
God [Jesus] says, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter heaven, but ONLY he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never KNEW YOU. Away from me, you evildoers!'" - Matthew 7:21-23
The Good News
We often hear only bad news in the news today, but the Bible teaches about the "Good News." What is this Good News? I will tell you the answer in a minute, but first realize that you will continue to live forever, even after you physically die, and you get to choose where you will live after you die by whether you accept God through Jesus Christ or not.
God says, "...the wages of sin [doing wrong] is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life in [or through] Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23
God says, "...all who receive Me, to those who believe in My name, I give the right to become My children." - Romans 6:23
The Good News is, "salvation" [or eternal life with God] is a FREE gift from God which you receive only by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
God says, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. " - Romans 10:9
You basically agree with God that...
- you cannot buy or earn your way into heaven, God's home, by being good enough,
- you cannot force your way in by saying you accept Him and then just doing whatever you want, and
- your only way in is by having an ongoing relationship with Him.
Look at it this way...
Would you enter a strangers home uninvited and try to make yourself at home? How about someone you know well, someone that invited you to make yourself at home, and come and go as you please? Also, would you expect even your friend to invite you in if you showed hostilely toward him? How about if you abused your privileges, doing whatever you wanted without regard for him or others in your home?
The truth is, you cannot enter God's home unless you know Him. The Good News is, He invites you in through Jesus Christ and you only have to accept His invitation. And if you accept it, you become a child of God.
Believers says, "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ." - 1 John 1:3
God says, "You who accept Me are children of God." - Galatians 4:4
Jesus says, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." - Revelations 3:20
