VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

There are many ways to become involved in our communities
and our society, either directly or indirectly. We need your help.
There is much we can do together.
Here is a partial list of our activities
during 2007:
- Members of the Green Party of Camden County played an active
leadership role in many areas, including the peace movement,
environmental protection and promoting democratic reform.
- Several Green Party members have been involved in the
successful referendum efforts to prohibit pay-to-play in
Collingswood and Cherry Hill. These pay-to-play reform ordinances
will translate into decreased corruption and, as a result, lower
taxes there. In addition, the playing field is leveled for more
political competition.
- Members organized a cleaned-up of Camden County Park and the
Newton Creek in Camden on Earth Day, 2007. We had over 20
volunteers help to remove 10 tons of trash and materials for
recycling from the park and the creek.
- Several Green Party members founded the South Jersey
Environmental Coalition, an organization advocating the reduction
of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in
municipalities in Camden County. We have succeeded in getting
Cherry Hill to sign onto the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
- In an effort to bring the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to an
end, we organized a peace rally on International Peace Day in
2006. On January 27, 2007 we attended the 200,000 person anti-war
protest in Washington DC, which was co-sponsored by the national
Green Party. We also attended several events including a Concert
for Peace at the Unitarian Church in Cherry Hill, the Sacred Heart
Church Peace Fair in Camden and the weekly peace vigil at the
Cherry Hill Mall.
Clearly, the more of us who are able and willing to volunteer our
time and/or contribute financially to our efforts, the more effective
we will be in shaping a sustainable and peaceful future.
