Eagles Remain Undefeated with 27-6 Victory Over Redskins

September 30, 2006---Coming off of a solid victory over the Cowboys, the Eagles tried to stay hot and continue their good start in 2006. They managed to do just that, over a very solid Redskins team, 27-6. The score isn't an indicator of how tightly this game was played. The Redskins have improved dramatically, and should have a good year this year.

The Eagles elected to kick off to start the game, and responded with solid defense, shutting the Redskin offense down. The Redskins did manage to move the ball and pick up a couple of first downs, but the Eagle defense stiffened when it needed to, and took over possession after the Redskins punted. After stuffing a few Eagle plays for minimal games, Kyle Chavis broke open the scoring on a beautiful 35 yard run out of the backfield.

In the second quarter, the Eagle's defense continued to shut down the Redskin offense with solid play from Demonte Shaw, Cimir Lester, Sam McNair and D.J. Diakhaby. On offense, Kyle Chavis was again the key runner, scoring on a sweet run for another touchdown. The Eagles went into the half, up by a score of 14-0.

In the second half, both teams were solid on defense, but Joey Moore scored on a very deceptive quarterback keeper for a 21-0 Eagles lead. There were several key plays in this drive...the running of ends Dondre Griffin and Fabian O'Neill, along with a beautiful pass from Joey to Dondre for a huge gain. The offensive line, led by Collin MacKay, Jarred Simmons, Velonte Carrol and Tahj Small gave Joey a TON of time to operate the plays from behind the line of scrimmage.

Late in the 4th quarter, the Redskins scored on a solid drive, but missed the point after attempt, to make the score 21-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Sam McNair again showed his ability to find the endzone with a very tough return, bouncing off of several Redskins in the process. Sam's touchdown was the final score of the game, leaving the Eagles with a 27-6 victory. Next week, the undefeated Tigers will face the undefeated Eagles. These matches are historically tough, and the Tigers have also poured it on this year. They're very solid, and it's going to be a battle. I'd like to encourage the parents to wear their green, and support their Eagles, as they always do! Be loud and proud! We're so thankful for all that you do!
