Eagles run 2004 Record to 2-0 With Win Over the Raiders!

The Green Road Eagles continued a hot start through their 2004 season with a victory over the Raiders on Saturday, winning by a score of 19-0. The victory was a complete one, with the Eagles dominating on both sides of the ball for a second consecutive game! The Raiders had been the "Talk of the Town" as the team to beat in the league, but I'm quite sure we sent a message that won't soon be forgotten!

The Eagles won the toss, and elected to receive. After a 7-play drive, we were able to punch it in on a brilliant 25-yard run by Marquis Baltimore, making the score 6-0 after a missed 1-point conversion. On the ensuing kickoff, the Raiders were unable to gain a first down, and turned the ball over on 4 and out.

The Eagles second possession of the game featured some awesome runs by our tight ends, Rashon Pickett and Maurice Jones. Both contributed heavily during the drive, which ended with another touchdown by Marquis Baltimore. The Raiders failed to move the ball, and the score at halftime was Eagles 12, Raiders 0.

In the second half, the Eagles kicked off to the Raiders, and they immediately ran the kickoff back for a touchdown. However, it was called back, due to multiple holding penalties on the receiving team, and the Eagles survived a scare. The Raiders self-destructed at that point, stalling a 30-yard drive. After the Eagles took over on offense, Rashon Pickett set up our next touchdown with an outstanding 40-yard run, falling just short on the 1-yard line. Maurice Jones finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown, while Timarcus Simpson added the 1-point conversion with a 2-yard run up the middle.

The 4th quarter went scoreless by both teams, as the Eagles outstanding defense continued to pound the Raiders. I'm almost certain the defense only allowed the Raiders to gain 3 first downs, at the most. Defense, hold your heads high! Your second shutout in as many games!

KUDOS: The entire offensive line, led by Kendal Miles, Terry Whitehead, Diante Lyons, Damian Reeves and Gershom Ejoni. This unit did an OUTSTANDING JOB blocking for our running backs! Kudos to the Defensive unit as well...you could not have performed any better! Also, a shout out to Dorrell "Colonel" McClain and Timarcus Simpson for hitting all their blocks out of the backfield, and providing solid running when called upon. Kudos also to the entire team of subs who came in for the starters and performed BRILLIANTLY! Another true "TEAM" effort! The parents and couches are PROUD of you!

Next up, we start division play with the Vikings. These are the games we'll have to win, in order to take our division. Let's roll, Eagles!
