2nd Half Tough On Eagles against Tigers

September 17, 2005---The Eagles faced a tough test on Saturday, playing against their arch rival, the Lions Park Tigers. The Tigers are the 2-time defending league champions, and would prove to be a good test for the Eagles.

The Eagles won the coin toss and elected to kick off. The Tigers used the first drive of the game to score a touchdown and extra point, and giving themselves a quick 7-0 lead. After an onside kick recovered by the Eagles, the offense went to work, gaining a first down, but no more.

The entire first half would go this way, with neither team giving up much in yards, and no scoring...until late in the 2nd quarter, when Timarcus Simpson scored his 3rd touchdown of the season with a 25-yard breakaway run to the left, and into the endzone. Diante Lyons added the 1-point PAT with a nice little run and conversion. The half would end with a highly-contested tie, at 7-7.

Unfortunately, that would be all of the offense the Eagles could muster against a very tight Tiger defense. The Tigers scored a touchdown in the 3rd quarter to take a 14-7 lead, and one touchdown in the 4th quarter to give themselves the final and deciding margin of 21-7.

Despite losing by 2 touchdowns, this game wasn't really decided until the 4th quarter, and the Eagles rolled with everything the Tigers could throw at them. I'm proud of the effort our kids put forward...they played with a lot of heart and spirit, and gave their all before it was over. That's all a coach can ever ask for!

Our next game is our last non-conference game, and that'll be against the Cowboys. Traditionally, this rivalry has always been intense, and we know it's going to take our "A" game to beat them. The league always pits the Eagles and Cowboys together, because they know it's a great matchup! It's definitely one we're looking forward to, as we'll soon begin conference play. As an FYI, the first 3 games do not count in the standings, and are labelled as "preseason" games. The 4 conference games decide who represents their division in the Super Bowl. So, we know we've got some work to do!

Go Eagles!
