Eagles Open 2006 In Style With 35-12 Win Over the Pack!
September 16, 2006---After a very difficult 2005 season where the Eagles hung in there for every game, but often came up on the short end, the first game of 2006 was certainly a breath of fresh air! Green Road opened up 2006 with a nice 35-12 victory over the Pack. We've had trouble with this team over the past couple of years, but finally came out on top with some pretty good football!
The Eagles won the toss to start the game, and elected to receive. On the very first offensive play of 2006, Tonye Bandini ripped off a 40-yard touchdown scamper...but, it was called back on a holding call. Unfazed, the Eagles continued to pound the ball inside and out, eventually scoring to make it a 7-0 game. After an ensuing 3 and out by the Pack, the Eagles scored again on another long drive, making it 14-0 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Pack fought back to score on a broken play to make the score 14-6, Eagles. Again, Green Road would find an opportunity to score, getting another touchdown on a nifty kickoff return, which ended the first half with the Eagles leading, 21-6.
In the second half, the Pack opened up its first drive with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Even though the Eagles were holding a 21-12 advantage, we knew the game was far from over. On our next drive, we were able to punch it in on a QB keeper by Joey Moore for a 28-12 advantage.
In the 4th quarter, the defense stood tall and stopped the Pack offense the rest of the way. The Eagles added a late touchdown to make the final score 35-12. While a lot of things clicked in this game, it was painfully apparent that we've got some work to do on special teams. The defense did a very good job, and was often hitting the Pack in the backfield. Take away that broken play by the Pack, and it was an otherwise solid performance! Kudos to the offensive line for giving the QB some awesome protection. Everyone did a GREAT job blocking! Our backfield was just on fire...Tonye Bandini, Sam McNair and Kyle Chavis did an oustanding job running the ball! All in all, the ENTIRE team played a very solid first game. Next up are the Cowboys, who participated in last year's Super Bowl. These are always GREAT matchups between the Eagles and Cowboys, and this one should be no different! Go Eagles!
