Eagles Open 2004 Season With Shutout of Cowboys!
The Eagles started 2004 in a positive way, beating the Cowboys 6-0! Although the score was close, the game seemed to be out of the Cowboys' reach from the start. The Eagles won the toss, elected to receive, then proceeded to grind out a drive that lasted the entire first quarter and almost 2 minutes of the second quarter. In my 7 years in the league, I have never seen this happen! Unfortunately, we just couldn't seem to push the ball into the endzone. However, the grinding Wishbone offense took its toll on the Cowboys, and they responded with a 4-and-out on their only possession of the first half.
The score was still 0-0 at the half, and the Eagles kicked off to start the second half. The Cowboys did another 4-and-out, and we took the punt in good field position. After gaining positive yards, we finally broke the Cowboys' defense on a quarterback keeper to the right, scoring on Tyler Legget's 15-yard touchdown run. Overall, the Cowboys only had THREE possessions in the game, which means our ball-control Wishbone Offense is doing the job! We just have to work on our Red Zone scoring opportunities, and we'll be ok.
Big-time kudos to the defense! They preserved the shutout by not allowing a single first down the entire game, and was frequently hitting the Cowboy ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage for losses. That's teamwork, folks!
Kudos also to the offensive line for giving us time to run our plays. No sacks were allowed. Congrats to everyone on the team...this was a true "team" effort, as the coaches made every attempt to get each player into the game for some meaningful playing time. The subs did an AWESOME job, in place of the starters! Congrats, team! Way to go! Next up are the Redskins!
