Eagles Shutout Rams, 13-0 to Set Defensive Record!

10/30/2004---The Green Road Eagles set a team record on Saturday by recording their 5th shutout of the season. The mark beats the previous record of 4, set back in 1999. Congratulations, Eagles! You should be proud!

The Eagles were looking for a measure of revenge against the Rams, due to last year's 20-0 pasting that they gave us. While we didn't dominate them quite as much, we certainly dictated the flow of the game throughout. The Rams never posted a scoring threat in this game, and recorded only 3 first downs. Each time, the Eagle "D" stepped up and did a great job!

The Eagles received to start the game, and had a very nice drive stall in Rams territory. The Rams did no better, going through a 3-and-out themselves. Finally, our offense broke through on Dorrel McClain's 19-yard touchdown run. The extra point failed. That would be all the scoring in the first half, with the Eagles leading, 6-0.

The Rams took over on offense on the first possession of the second half, with very much the same results. On the Eagles first offensive drive in the 3rd quarter, Marquis Baltimore broke through and scored on a nice power left, and made the score 12-0. Maurice Jones punched it in on the conversion play from 2 yards out to make the score 13-0. The fourth quarter produced no points for either team, and 13-0 ended up standing as the final score.

Again, another solid victory by the Eagles! Each and every player on this team should stand tall, because, in my eyes, this is the best team I've ever had the pleasure of coaching. It's been MY honor to be here! The offensive and defensive production that this team has accomplished has eclipsed even our Super Bowl teams in 2000 and 2001! Now, THAT'S awesome!

My only regret is that, due to the ridiculous format set by the City, this team will not get a shot at the Super Bowl. It truly indicates that changes are needed, when a record-setting team, widely regarded by the coaches in the league as one of the best, won't have a chance to play. The kids have worked VERY hard, and we can be rewarded with a 5-1 overall record, and 3-1 conference record, but we would have loved a shot! Either way, I couldn't be PROUDER of what this team has accomplished this year. We've learned the game of football, and had a BLAST along the way. Let's try to finish at 6-1 next week against the Redskins!

The last game of the 2004 season is on Saturday, 6 November 2004, at 11:30am. We'll be going up against a very-much improved Redskins team that played the Tigers pretty tough last week. We're looking forward to the challenge, and to closing out 2004 in style!

Kudos to: A.J. Lyles for his outstanding defensive effort today! A.J. consistently got into the Ram backfield, and came up with tackle after tackle, to keep the Rams off-balance.

Notable Notes: With their 5th victory, the Eagles have now posted 5 shutouts. The offense has scored 108 points this year, while allowing only 18. That averages out to 18 points scored per game! Awesome job, Eagles!
