Eagles Finally Gain Victory Over Cougars, 6-0!
October 22, 2005---FINALLY! The Eagles' hard work and persistence finally paid off today, as they gained their first victory of the year with a 6-0 win over the Cougars.
Even though the score was close, the game actually was heavily balanced toward the Eagles through several long, clock-killing drives. The Eagles defense, in gaining their first shutout of the season, was absolutely DOMINANT against the Cougar offense, hitting them in the backfield for losses on many of their plays. The Cougar quarterback couldn't fall back fast enough, without having an Eagle reaching for him! Our defense kept them completely off-balance, allowing only 2 first downs the entire game. The defense was led by Gershom Ejoni, Samuel McNair and Anthony Giordano.
The first half ended at a 0-0 tie, mostly due to the Eagles' unfortunate trend of turning the ball over. We had 2 nice, long drives in the first half, but were unable to capitalize on them due to our own mistakes.
The Eagles finally broke through in the 3rd quarter on a Diante Lyons run from 25 yards out to make the score 6-0. The Eagles defense took over from there, and held the Cougars scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.
It was great to finally win one, and a relief to get that momentum going, since we have the Vikings next week, who are playing like Super Bowl favorites.
