Eagles Fall Just Short to Vikings, 13-18

9/25/04---The Green Road Eagles absorbed their first loss of the 2004 season to the Vikings in a hard-fought game by both teams, 13-18. The game was either team's to win, right up until late in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles had their chance to take the lead initially, as Tyler Leggett intercepted a Viking pass on their first play from scrimmage. Maurice Jones then ran 25 yards to the Viking 1-yard line, but the Eagles fell short on two penalties and failed runs from First and Goal.

The first half was a defensive struggle, with the Vikings going into the halftime with a 6-0 advantage. The Vikings scored on a long pass play over the middle, marking the first time the Eagle defense has given up points this year. Green Road regrouped after that play, and shut the opposing offense down for the rest of the first half.

The Vikings started the 3rd quarter with a scoring drive, making the score 12-0. The Eagles refused to fold, however, finally breaking through the opposing defense on a nifty 30-yard touchdown dash by Marquis Baltimore. The Eagles then scored on the 1-point conversion, making the score 12-7.

Midway through the 4th quarter, the Vikings punched in their final touchdown with a 2-yard run up the middle. Facing an 18-7 deficit with only minutes remaining, the Eagles mounted a furious comeback, scoring on Rashon Pickett's first touchdown of the season from 35 yards out. Unfortunately, time expired on that play, and the Eagles fell just short to a very talented Vikings team.

Kudos to the entire team for never quitting! That says a LOT about the character of this team, and I know it will carry over for the remainder of the season. We've got some things to work on, but I know we're going to make an awesome run the rest of the season!

Despite the loss, the Eagles are anticipating the upcoming game with the Cougars. The kids' attitude was very upbeat, and they look eager to return to the field, following a bye week.
