Eagles fall flat to Panthers, 18-0
October 15, 2005---The Eagles faced the undefeated Panthers with one thing in mind: Upset! However, it just wasn't meant to happen, as the vastly-improved Panthers showed how one year can make a difference in this league, and beat the Eagles 18-0.
The Eagles won the toss and elected to kick off. The Panthers immediately trudged out a long drive to hit the endzone with a 6-0 advantage. The Eagles took over on offense, but were unable to find their offensive groove throughout the entire first quarter.
The Panthers scored again in the second quarter to give themselves a 12-0 cushion. However, the Eagles finally responded with a nice, long drive down to the Panthers' 5-yard line....but failed to get into the endzone due to a turnover. A score there certainly would have made the game tighter, but we just missed out.
The Eagles received the ball to start the 3rd quarter, but never could amount much of an offense. The Panthers scored a a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to end the game at 18-0.
There were some positives to be taken from this game, but the biggest problem we've faced all year is our inexperience on defense, and the lack of a control offense. Whenever we needed a stop, we were unable to get it, and the Panthers were able to take advantage of the lapses. When they did score, it was on broken coverage, and that's something we know we have to work on. Their offense did nothing spectacular, but they ran a good ball-control offense, which found holes in our defense. That's enough to win games in this league! Kudos to the Panthers for turning around their season from last year, when they went winless. We can certainly relate to the rebuilding process this year! ;)
